No, lexapro is not a narcotic.
I hated it when I was on it. I had horrible headaches but I know quite a few people who actually like being on it.
:? I'm doing some weanin myself in Jan 07 My doc pers. 20mg i've been on for six months i'm now trying to wean myself off i just called my doc today to lower doseage from what ive read it's not good to just stop takng them. When i take Lexpro I'm oversleeping all the time I have jolts of happiness then major sadness I'm contantly eating it's like i'm never full. When i wake up i feel tense and my body is weight down and my mind is really cloudly esspecially if I slept to long. My sex drive is very low. I aslo feel like I'm going retarded, I feel like I can't commucatie with others as well I as I use to and I become over friendly or very denfensive. My family constantly ask what wrong and I'll be fine. I sit on idle thinking alot. My head hurts alot. It's really weird. I wasn't like this as much before I took This medication and It's expensive without insurance so I really just want to be free of the affect. I'm also a Recovering Addict. Is Lexapro Narcothic?
She didn't feel comfortable taking anything durning pregnancy, since she had a child born with a major heart problem...I am not sure if she was actually advised to get off of it...
If you just stop cold turkey, you will experience certain withdrawl symptoms. Dizzy spells and hot flashes are the most common. It also increases the chance of falling in to a major depression. Look at like this. Your mind is on an even level b/c of the medicine. Then you stop all together. Your mind will dive straight down instead of easing it down to what is normal. You are not only sending your body in to *shock* but your mind as well. Not too smart, and I only say this for your emotional well being. It can also increase anxiety to very high levels.
I never heard that lexapro affects the ability to conceive. Did she go off of it because she was trying - or because you aren't supposed to take it once you are pregnant?
i am so happy to have read this post. For the last 2 weeks i have been trying to wean myself off of lexapro. First i took half a dose every day, then every other day, then 3 days ago i stopped taking it completely - and spent the last three days severely nauseous, dizzy, and had huge headaches...last night i finally just gave up and took my lexapro. Trying to quit my anti-depressant was making me depressed.
You should probably call your doctors office and let them know you stopped taking your medication. They can tell you the correct dosages to slowly wean yourself from the meds. It will be much easier and less stressful to taper off than to stop them cold turkey.
Take care.
you are having withdraw symptoms....lexapro can be like any other drug. It's like alcohol, tobacco, etc....when you're on it for awhile, your body gets used to it....this is classic withdraw symptoms. It's usually reccomended to be weened of certain medications under the supervision of a doctor.
Sorry, never heard of it. My best friend was on Lexapro after her son was born with a major heart defect, and went into open heart surgery at 4 days old...obviously, she was TRAUMATIZED. She saw a family therapist, and took Lexapro for about 8 months. She recovered, and took about 8 weeks to get off the Lexapro so she could ttc again....she is now 12 weeks pg!
Has anyone heard of, or used Relegan?
I concur with mslkpage...you need to slowly wean yourself off of it. I understand your urgency to quit taking it, but it isn't designed to stop taking it abrubtly. If you place a call to you doctor, they will provide dosages to slowly wein yourself.
I did it by myself. I wanted to give the Relegan a try.
Did you step down off of it, or just quit cold turkey? The best thing to do with Lexapro, is step down with your doctor's consent. Many times, they'll have you taper down to a pill every other day, then every three days, etc.
