Hi all,
I've read many of the posts on here related to vulvadynia and I am hoping some of you might be able to help me. I've been suffering from a burning sensation on my vulva and on the entrance of my vagina for five months, which all started after I thought I had a yeast infection from using a certain lube for the first time. I was tested for all kinds of infections which have all come back negative. My ob/gyn hasn't diagnosed it as vulvadynia yet, but my guess is that the burning has something to do with my nerves down there. I've been on a treatment of 10mg of amitriptyline once at night everyday along with estrace cream for two months now, and I have not felt improvement for my burning. When I go back to the doctor I would like to ask about increasing my dose for the amitriptyline or maybe trying Lyrica, but I am nervous about the side-effects I've read that come with these medications in higher doses.
My main questions are:
1) Has anyone found a treatment that works for them for a similar burning sensation? Or has anyone experienced burning like this before?
2) What are people's experiences with amitriptyline, other tricyclic antidepressants, Lyrica, or other medications prescribed to treat vulvadynia?
3) For people who found relief from their pain using medications for vulvadynia, were you ever able to go off the medications and feel normal again?
No two women are the same or will have the same responses to medications and treatments, but this burning feeling is driving me crazy! So I am hoping I can get some suggestions from you all to bring up to my doctor when I see her again soon.
