Missed pills, pregnancy, etc.

I hope this isn't too confusing and hope someone will know how to answer. I stopped taking the pill 5 days into a new pack (Cyclessa). I had unprotected sex 2 days later and had a period 2-3 days later. My first question is whether this period is an actual period where I start counting again from the first day of it to determine when my next period will come (it was normal flow). I then did not take any more pills after and am now on the second day I should be taking my placebo pills and looks like I may be starting my period. It's been very light and brown in color for the past 2 days. Normally, I wouldn't start until the 4th day of the placebos and have never had the brown before. Should I still start my period at this normal time (a few days early) if I had the one after stopping the pill and have 2 periods in 2-3 weeks? Also, if I had unprotected sex 2 days ago, is it possible I could still get pregnant?

I was told by the gyno that when u stop the pill in mid cycyle and you bleed it's chemical withdrawl, not a period, from the lack of hormones.  I'm not sure the specifics, but I don't believe it counts as a period.

Normally you would count that withdrawl bleeding (the bleeding you had about 4 days after you stopped the pills) as your period, and count 4 weeks from that day.  However, it sounds like your body is a little out of whack from stopping mid-pack.

I'd take a hpt right now, to rule out pregnancy that may have occured from the sex you had 2 days after stopping the pills.  I'd be more worried about getting pregnant from that occasion than the sex you had a few days ago.

Hopefully you'll get a regular period soon and you'll know exactly when to start counting for your next one.  But if you don't get a regular period take another hpt in 1 week.  This confusion you're going through is why they don't recommend stopping the pills mid-pack.  Hopefully things work out soon for you!

Maybe I was misinformed/misunderstood.  My aunt is actually a gyno so I'm going to call her tonight and see.  I always thought it wasnt a period b/c, I have stopped the pill mid pack and had heavy withdrawl bleeding.  And then a period a week later.  Hmmm.  Thanks though! :)

yes withdrawal bleeding and a period are pretty much the same thing. they both involve shedding the lining of the uterus becuase an egg has NOT implanted.

No, the blood you experienced after stopping the pill 3 days into it WAS NOT A PERIOD.  This was breakthrough bleeding and can be heavy enough to be mistaken for a period.  You may even have cramping exactly like menstrual cramps.  But it IS NOT A PERIOD and you should use a back up method of birth control.  You may have thrown off your cycle by doing this, so therefore when your ovulation probably will be different from normal.

Yes, bleeding from completely stopping the pills mid-pack is your period.  It's technically called withdrawal bleeding and is caused by the sudden hormone drop when you stop taking the pill, whether that be at the end of the pack as normal or mid-pack.  It might be lighter than a normal period because the lining of the endometrium is probably very thin.

unprotected sex is not a good idea right now!! you probably won't get pregnant from this encounter, but if you keep playing with fire, you're going to get burned.
the period you experienced was normal. you could take 2 days worth of pills and still get a period a few days later.
you are still spotting, which is not really all that normal, but you're just gonna have to wait it out. once all the bleeding and spotting has stopped, you should consider yourself fertile as usual and a period in about a month!
