Pregnant after Tubal Ligation

Hopefully someone can answer some questions for me because I'm not getting them anywhere else.

I am a 35 yr old mother of two.  Boy 4 Girl 5.  I had a Tubal Ligation in December 2004, and was VERY adament about NOT wanting anymore children. I found out 3 weeks ago I was pregnant and found out 2 days ago I'm pregnant with twins. What the $%^&!!!!!!

How common is this?  I understood about it being statistically possible to become pregnant again and that I had a 50/50 chance of the pregnancy being uterine.  What is the liklihood of it being a uterine pregnancy with twins after a tubal ligation?

I am going crazy here!!  Anyone have any answers?

WORD OF ADVICE...
DO NOT LET A MAN CONVINCE YOU TO TIE YOUR TUBES UNLESS YOU REALLY WANT TOO. I HAVE FIVE KIDS AND ONE CAME AFTER A MISCARRIAGE. AFTER MY FIFTH I GOT MY TUBES TIED TO MAKE MY HUSBAND HAPPY. IF HE WANTED IT SO BAD, HE SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN A VASECTOMY. I WAS ANGERED AT MY DECISION UNTIL I REALIZED THESTRUGGLE WITH FIVE KIDS! MY DAUGHTER WILL BE 2 SOON WHICH MEANS I CAN FINALLY GET MY BA IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION. IF YOU HAD A GOOD DR. AT THE TIME, THERE WILL BE A SLIM CHANCE OF GETTING PREGNANT AFTER A TUBALIGATION. MY DR. WAS GOOD. I WANT MORE KIDS, BUT I CHOOSE TO WAIT FOR GRANDKIDS IN THE FUTURE OR IF I HAVE A FAILED MARRIAGE, MARRY A GUY WHO ACCEPTS GOD, MY BAGGAGE, LOVES US, WANTS MORE KIDS, AND CAN PAY FOR MY REVERSAL ;- )

i am 26 years old. I have an 8 year old son and a 1 year old daughter. I had my tubes clamped a year ago this month. The dr refused to cut and burn them. Now i am 3 weeks late. Have had 2 at home tests with 3 or 4 dots in the area that a positive line would show in. I am  extremely nauseated and tired all the time. I feel like there isn't really much of anything else that could cause all these symptoms but my family doesn't think i am pregnant. Anyone have  the same  type of  issue or has any word of wisdom would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I went to the doctor monday and the doctor told me my tubes have grown over my silicone rings. I had surgery back in july due to endometreosis. He said I had endometreosis stage 2 in my uterus, culdsac,on my tubes& overies, and had endometerial polyposis. I ask if that would pose a problem. He said that due to the endometreosis on my tubes and overies I could get pregnant. he ran a pregnancy test due to how i was felling. I'm sure i'm not pregnant cause he never called to tell me so. If I was he would have called by now it has been 4 days. I ask do the silicone rings fail alot. He said they either come loose or off or endometreosis forms and then pregnancy can happen. he has seen quiet pregnany with silicone rings. We have pictures of mine that is so weird. i had surgery 8 yrs before and the rings was tight and fine. I can't say the same now. They are not tight and the tubes has grown over them. He said we have a small chance of a ectopic but it should be a uterine pregnancy. does anyone know someone that has gotten pregnant with silicone rings.

Poster above:  Your situation sounds so much like mine!!  I had my tubal done in Jan 08 during the c-sesction of my 4th baby.  I have always had preeclampsia and  have had 4 c-sections.  I also succombed to the fear from the OB and had them done and also regret it.  I feel for you and understand.  The same OB has given me the stas of 1/1000 chance.  Mine were cut/tied/burned.  Although when you read some of these posts they are hopeful.  I am also Canadian.  Best wishes.

I am 38 years old. I just had my 8th child 6 months ago. My uterus had ruptured and my baby almost died. My labor was the worst ever 3 days of intense labor. I can usually focus pretty good and have pretty normal labors. We began our marriage wanting the average 2 children. Due to Providence, although we tried to stop the pregnancies they kept coming. We decided to have as many as would come our way and opened our hearts to that idea. We have many friends with large families. They are happy, beautiful and well-adjusted. Then this happened and the Doctors totally convinced us if we tried agian, myself and the baby would surely die....

Well, in our vulnerable state we agreed to a tubligation. Once I recovered and did some research I found out many women have gone on to have heathy, safe labor and deliveries after these same complications. We seldom believe everything we are fed from teh medical field...this time we were vulnerable. Now we regret the decision. We have grieved much!! Reading this forum has given me hope that maybe, just maybe it is possible to still get pregnant. They cut and burned one side the other side they apparently just clamped...does it sound possible??

Does anyone know of any doctor in Manitoba that is large family friendly??THat would give us positive advice in this situation??Please email me at ***@****.

Woah. I had my tubes tied 6 years ago after the birth of my 3rd child. Now I am remarried and my new husband wants more kids. I kind of do but not enough to get reverse surgery.
I think  that you are really lucky to be pregnant again. If I had known what all was going to happen I would not have gotten my tubal.
I wish you the best of luck and will be praying for you.

WOW!! I had atubal ligation in March of 2004 after a very hard pregnancy of bed rest,  major complications & my son being taken 10 weeks early.( he is great now by the way) Last Septmeber I was late for my period which is VERY regular, I took 5 pregnancy tests which were all positive!! I went to the Dr. for a blood test, which came back positive, but later the very day the doc. called me with the blood test results I started my period and  all pregnancy tests after that came back negative.  Now once again..NO period in September and I again have just gotten positive pregnancy test like last year!!!! I'm freaking out here! I have 4 children, not to mention they told me with my son not to have any more for 5 years if I planned on it at all, which I DID NOT!! I'm wondering if maybe my hormones are just way out of whack!! I'm going to wait a few more days and see what hapenes... Wish me luck!!

Hey, I am also 35, had a tubal ligation last Nov. 2004. I got on the computer to see what the chances are that I could be pregnant. I have just been feeling kind of nauseous, had a period, normal for me, not real heavy about 2 weeks ago, I am usually a 28 day cycle and for the last 3 days have felt sick and am spotting a bit. I had twin boys, very first pregnancy, had only tried for two months. I just have to tell you what an absolute, overwhelming happiness they have brought me and I truly believe as someone else has said that you are extremly blessed and that God obviously wants these guys for you. I was wondering if you had anything like those symptoms? Also just crying at the drop of a dime and feeling very moody??? Just don't know what to think. If you have any questions regarding the twins I would be happy to help. Take care and take it very easy and if I can give you any advice, eat alot, no matter what the doctor tells you, I was lucky to have seen a multiples specialist, and just read books on my own, one said eat and eat. I did and the babies were born at35 weeks and healthy as ever.

Go to your doctor at once.  If you've had a tubal ligation, you are at very high risk for an ectopic.

I am 2 weeks late for my period and I have had a tubal ligation 3 1/2 years ago after I gave birth to my son who is 4 I also have a 6 year old daughter so I thought I had enough children... now I am remarried and I am late. I have taken 2 tests at home and the first read an error and the second one was positive... I am so confused. Any suggestions?

another WOW! this is happening to you for some reason that maybe you just dont know why yet or even understand. i think, although its totally shocking and life altering, once you start to show,  hear the heartbeats, feel the kicks, you will feel some joy. you may not feel the joy (only shock) right now but as you move along you will. is your husband/partner helpful/supportive? as this will help you emmensily. the other 2 children are old enough to do a few jobs to help you out when the babies come and MAKE then your helpers because you will need it. Tons of support groups out there with twins. even though you got rid of some of your stuff, start tag saling, ask friends, or buy new. i think that will also help you to feel some excitement during this unexpected time. best of luck to you and your family.

That's great!  You have trememdous courage...these babies seem to be pretty determined!

Hop on over to the Maternal-Child forum if you would like.  Great group of ladies, some expecting, some trying, and some (like me) just interested in birth and womens health.  We've seen many, many from the first positive test through to delivery.

One caution--termination is a sore subject over there.  Lots of the ladies are trying to conceive, and the issue can get very heated.

I'm very glad for you.  Be sure this time that both of those tubes get tied correctly!

I don't think WOW!!!  quite covers it!!  lol!!

Honestly, in the beginning of all this, before we found out about the twins, I was in the mental and physical place in my mind to terminate.  After all I did have the surgery for a reason.  After finding out about the twins we are going to keep them.  For some reason, to me, 2 is alot harder to terminate. So, you can just imagine the emotional roller coaster I have been on from finding out I'm pregnant, to deciding to terminate, to finding out it's twins, to realizing my family size is going from 4 to 6 in a matter of months.

And I had just given all my baby items away a couple of months ago, stroller, crib, everything!!

I'll echo the "WOW"!  The odds have to be pretty far out there.

What are you going to do?

WOW!  Sounds like the powers that be want you to have more children!  I can't even imagine the shock and surprise you must be going through.  But, if I were you, I would accept the fact, and cherish this pregnancy and bundles of joy to come.  They are really special to have beaten the odds...I wish you the best...
