Period and the Pill

I am 19 years old and I have been on the birth control pill for about a year now.  I have never had any issues with it, and my period would always arrive on the same set date.  This past weekend I was going away and I didn't want to get my period, so I skipped the placebo pills and started taking my next pack so I would not get my period.  This however did not work for my and I got my period anyway.  I am now on my 12th day of my period and I have absolutely no clue what is going.  Usually my periods are very light and last approximately 4-5 days.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on!?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I am currently on Aviane... same deal as Alesse.  I was due to get my period yesterday and still have not got it.  My period/spotting from before last 16-17 days, so it makes me wonder if I will even get my actual period...

Ahhh it's still going... It's not like a full out period, it is light enough, but every time I wipe, blood is there.  It is more so like the old blood- brownish in color.
