RARE late period, pregnancy test negative.
I am 27 years old and husband and I have been trying to conceive for 1 year. Dr. just diagnosed infertility and ordered a semen analysis (the 1st step for us) but we haven't done it yet. Now, my period is 5 days late (I calculate like a crazy woman). I am NEVER late and was sure THIS WAS IT. Lo and behold the test had a big minus. I cried. I didn't test in the a.m. but it says you don't have to. I am scared to test again just to see another sad result. I feel queasy but maybe I am wishing these symptoms on. How accurate are these tests?? How long should I wait to do it again?

There are times when you can get a false negative. A friend of mine did not show positive till 6 weeks. Test again in a couple of days, if still negative and no period, get it checked with the Dr. Worrying can also delay a period in some cases. Good luck!
I know, I keep telling myself not to worry, but it's hard. We want this so bad. It's funny, I went through my twenties trying NOT to get pregnant, and then when you want to it's just not that easy. Dr. says the semen analysis will be the 1st step to start ruling out causes.
I know what you mean. I used to think getting pregnant was easy untill I really looked into how it all works. Its amazing how anyone gets pregnant knowing what your body goes through! You've started the steps with your doctor to get to the bottom of the problem which is good. Getting a negative result is a horrible and sad experience and I'am sure most people on this forum would agree. It does take time. Good luck with the next hpt.
Thanks. I am making myself wait 5 more days till I do another HPT. I just did the 1st one yesterday (at 4 days late). I am praying for NO PERIOD :) Does the 99% accurate claim on the test mean that my negative was 99% right? I am obsessing I know...
it does not mean it was 99% negative. some peoples bodies take longer to prodie the pregnancy hormone. how long are your cycles? i do obsess too so i might be able to help. i did not show positive untill 6 weeks with the baby i miscarried. if you know when you ovulated that would help too!
My cycles are 30 days. My ovulation predictor said I ovulated right around the 21st of February. My last menstrual cycle was on Feb. 5th, and my period was due March the 7th. We have been TTC for a year, so I hate to get my hopes up.
I am another one who obsesses. Always searching on the internet for other advise on monthly cycles, ovulation, hpt's etc. My period is due on Wednesday. Not done a hpt yet. Part of me does not want to incase its negetive. My cycles are also 30 days and we had sex on day 13 of cycle. Will wait and see!
Craven, do you have children? How long have you been TTC? I agree...I hate doing the HPT's cause it's never the result I want. This is the 1st time in a year of trying I have been officially "late", so I am going crazy! I really thought it was gonna be a plus sign, but got a big fat negative...:( I tested late in the day with an off-brand test do you think that matters? I already had it planned in my head that that test was gonna be positive and then I was gonna go buy a expensive test to keep and save the happy results. Oh well.
I do not have any children, and ttc for a few months.Testing late in the day may effect it if you were taking an early hpt before your period was due, but as you are a few days late I'am not too sure. It could be, as babyblues above mentioned, that the levels in your body have not been detected yet. The only way you will know is to take another hpt as hard as it is!

We are in the same boat lets ride together. my last AF was 2/6 and i 'o'ed on the 21st as well. We have been TTCing after depo for 14 months now. I was 3 days late and tested BFN and wiped and saw pink. I assumed it was AF and then she went away. Where i am on clomid my doc made me go in friday for a blood level to see if i am PG. i have not tested with urine since cuz i cannot stand the disappointment. I know how frustrating this can be for sure. it is even harder when you want it so bad to keep your mind on anything else. i will find out the results on monday and am fearing the your just messed up and not PG call. Give it till CD 40 and if still BFN and no AF call your doc and demand blood work and provera if need be. I feel either let us be PG or give us AF so we can keep TTCing and get that BFP. A delayed AF is not doing us any favors!!!

Yeah, the no AF is really messing me up...the only thing that I could rely on was a regular cycle, now that is taken away. When that minus showed up on the HPT I thought I was gonna go crazy. I was on the pill for 10 years, but all the Dr.'s say that that wont hurt when TTC...I am beginning to wonder. But this is the 1st time I was late and I was SO SURE. So you are on clomid...did your Dr. start with a semen analysis or did he do bloodwork with you 1st? I just now got the "infertility" diagnosis---it hurt to see that on paper. What helps is to see that you are in the same boat and on the same cycle. Should I take another HPT if still no AF or call the Dr.? I am making myself wait for another few days.
Just wondering how the blood work test came out for Kimmie. I called Doc today and he wants me to take another HPT in the a.m. on Tuesday and then come in if it's still neg. I bought the 2 pack and took another right away, and of course it's still neg. Still no AF.
Not sure if you girls will read this. but I am dealing with the same situation. I have been late before, but only by 3 or 4 days. My last period was feb 7, and so far no period. I am having symptoms, but have had two negative tests. I don't know what to do. My husband had a vasectomy in september. Neeles to say he is worried I am pregnant. I don't have insurance, so it's hard to just go to the doctor. Have either one of you had a positive pregnancy test yet?
I've done 5 hpts in the last week. I'm totally obsessing too. I'm never late and all of them are false. Called the doctor and he said to wait until after the weekend and if still no period, he'll do a blood test.
I am in a little bit different situation. I am not sure of the first day of my last period, but the last day was at least 2 days before Feb. 23rd, the day we used only spermicide as BC. This puts me at least at 35 days since the last day and at least 40 days since the first day. I have endometriosis and PCOS and am also coming off of depo, plus my cycles are always shorter than 28 days, though the exact number of days varies. We are not trying to get pregnant and I have had three negative HPT's, so I am worried that something else may be causing the missed period. Does anyone have any ideas on this? Thank you!
Hi ladies. Finally a site where I can relate to. Im from Asutralia. Im 39 and have been on IVF for 5 years - 5 attempts - 5 failures. My periods are like clockwork. I can set my watch by them!! I was due 12 days ago. HPT - neg. Had a blood test 10 days ago- neg :( Has ANYONE ever experienced neg blood results and then found they were pregnant after a week or so. No physical symptoms of pregnancy, just tiredness.I know it would be an absolute miracle from God if I fell naturally but these things do happen. Anyone in similar boat?? :)

Anyway, I've been silently commiserating with you all morning and finally decided to join in (although, to be honest, I'm not all that familiar with all of the abbrevations. I realize TTC is "trying to conceive" but beyond that, I'm a little clueless). Anyway, I've been of off the pill for almost a year, except that I didn't get my period for about four months. My obgyn had to prescribe a pill for me to get my period again, and for a little while there, I was regular. My husband and I have been ttc for the past few months, and my period is late by about 5 days now. A couple weeks ago, it felt like I was getting my period -- I had all the usual symptoms -- but it never came. I took a pregnancy test a week ago (before my period was due) and it was neg. I took another one this past weekend and it was neg. Now I don't want to take another one, b/c I've gotten so upset each time. I'm worried that if I'm not pregnant, I've got bigger problems because my period is nowhere to be seen.
All this anxiety and frustration make me want a refund for every copay and condom I bought back in the 90's.

Im so glad i found this website! Can someone please respond to my question asap! i am ttc, i think i may be pregnant but my hpt is showing a bfn. I am 5 days overdue my period, am i testing too early? I have regular periods which last around 5 days, but a couple of weeks ago i experienced a little bleed of a dark browny reddy color which only lasted a day, well actually it wasnt even a day i just had that little bit of blood then nothing after that apart from a few streaks of blood when i wiped. Could this have been implantation bleed? I do feel some nausea during the day and feel quite drained by teh end of the day. I also have been getting lower back pain and period like cramps? Please help! im anxiously waiting for your reply! Liya xxxxx
The best advice I can give you is to go to the doctor's and get a blood test. That is the FOR SURE result you can rely on. Alot of women have low amounts of HCG hormone in their urine, especially early in pregnancy. So, it may very well be an implantation bleed. Call the doc, and get the bloodwork done. Also, I know the tests say use urine at anytime, but it is best to go ahead and wait till the first urine in the a.m. Good Luck!
I am so sorry to hear all the attempts you have made to TTC. We have been trying for 14 months and just got sent to a fertility doc. 3 weeks ago I was late (a week and a half) and all my tests were BFN. Then finally I took a Clearblue Digital first thing in the A.M. and it was BFP! We were so happy, and figured out our "baby" was 5 1/2 weeks, and due around Nov. 15th. That day I went to the lab to get the bloods done and they were BFN. I was crushed. To be that late it was impossible for the hormones to not show up in the bloodwork. Believe me, I WANTED it to be just a really weird thing, and to be pregnant. Seems there has been reports of false positives on the Clearblue Digital tests. They will flat out read PREGNANT. And you know more then me, how crushing that is for someone who has been TTC. Reading about your attemps though...I am sure God does have a baby in store for you. You deserve it so much!!!!
Hi there! I can relate to your frustration with the pill. I mean, we spend all those years trying NOT to get pregnant. Then we want it to happen and it won't. We have been trying for 14 months after using the pill for 10 years. We were finally sent to a fertility doc and just had the semen analysis done. That is where they always begin to diagnose infertility. I got so tired of seeing BFN's (big fat negative) I was reluctant to take any test. Then I was given a false positive, which was the most horrible thing! We thought we had finally done it! I will be more then happy to talk with you about some personal experiences...yadda, yadda, yadda. Just reply and let me know you got this post. Here is some help on the abbreviations

I know what its like having a late period and getting negative results. I was feeling pregnant and was excited when my period didn't come. I took about a million pregnancy tests (all neg). After about a couple weeks went to the doc's. Got a blood test, came back negative. we were so dissapointed. A couple weeks later went back to the doctors because I wasn't feeling well. Decided to do a blood test and came back positive, 6 weeks pregnant. So I had a false negative on the first blood test at 4 weeks pregnant. Don't lose hope girls. It can happen.
i also know what everybody is going through. my lmp was on jan 20th and i still have not had a vist from af. i have taken 4 hpt and they were all negative. i had blood work done on march 7th and that was also bfn. i go back to the doctor on monday so maybe i can do more blood work and it will be bfp. af has never not shown up so this is really weird for me. once we started ttc this happens and i don't know what to do but wait.
