Scheduled for a D

Hi!
I'm scheduled for a D&C and a hysteroscopy on Friday to remove some "tissue" in my uterus that has caused abnormal bleeding.  This procedure is to be performed under local anesthesia, and I was wondering what I can expect as for as pain/discomfort during/from the procedure.  I'm a big baby when it comes to any type of surgery!

Hi!  Thanks for all of your comments.  Well, I had the procedure this morning and am already home.  I honestly don't remember anything at all.  Right now I just have some cramping..just going to take it easy today and see how I feel in the am.  The pathology results will come back on Thursday, so I'll know more about whats going on then.

Hi all.  FYI...I had a D & C years ago for a miscarriage.  It was performed in the doctor's office, with a 'local'.  I have a high tolerance for pain, but the pain I experienced with THAT procedure was excruciating.  Everyone else that I have personally known to have had a D & C, was done in the hospital, with more than a local anesthetic.  Because my procedure was done in the doc's office, they were prohibited from using anesthesia that would put me out.  I would highly recommend you speak with your doctor and ask exactly what they are going to give you during the procedure, and ask if it is done differently in a surgical facility.  I am not saying it is as painful for others that had it done the way I had it done, everyone is different.  But, ask lots of questions.  I also have a tipped uterus, so that made it a little difficult to get in there, and I am sure that was a factor in the pain aspect part of it.  After the procedure, there was minimal discomfort.  Good luck.  It's done a thousand times each day all over the country, no big deal, but ask specific questions!

Hello,
I am also scheduled for a D & C on Aug 13.My Dr recommended it because my monthly period is really heavy ( i have to use diapers instead of sanitary napkins!)
I'm really scared. Not of the surgery but the result of the procedure. I hope they will not find abnormalities.
I hope everything will turn out fine with you.
Take care...
