Sharp pains in right hip region when I run

I used to run everyday for a mile or two. But, suddenly one day I got sharp pains in my lower left hip region. They hurt so bad that I am forced to stop running.I tried to run the next day, and I had these hip pains agains as well as sharp pains in the right side of my chest. They don't happen unless I am fully running for about 5 minutes or longer. I do not run out of breath or grow tired when I run, like usual, but these pains do occur. Walking is not a problem. I asked my doctor about this problem, and he recomended having an EKG. It came back with no problem. He then recommended trying to hydrate well before running, as this could be a kidney issue. That didn't work either. I still have the pains when I run. Is this something normal?

is the pain in the middle of your "bum"?  I've had problems in that area, too.  besides sciatica, there is a large muscle there (sorry, i can't remember the name - not the glut).  a physical theapist gave me a set of stretching exercises to perform prior to working out, which had helped a lot.  you might want to see a p.t. or an orthopedist for further evaluation.

Has any doc ever suggested pressure on the sciatic nerve?
