Tampon Terror!

by SweetiePie411, Aug 13, 2009 11:40PM
Okay, I'm 14 and I started getting my period in December '08. I am going down to my mom's from Monday to Thursday or possibly even Friday (I live in Pennsylvania, she lives 45 min away from Rehobeth Beach, Delaware). We will be going swimming and to the beach. Now, the bad part is that's when my period is scheduled to come. I usually use pads while on my period. My last two periods were from June 9-16 and then July 17-24, so I'm guessing it's coming around the 17th again (I'm also having PMS symptoms). I really wanna go swimming and I'm considering using tampons for the first time. I just have a few things I'm worried about:

1. There is no way I will bleed through the tampon and my bathing suit, right? I estimate we will probably be swimming for about an hour and at the beach for about 2-3 hours.

2. I'm worrying about it getting stuck or going up too far. That won't happen, right?

3. Will it fall out while I'm swimming or in the ocean?

Btw, I have tried putting a tampon in and I successfully did, although the last time I tried was back in December. I'm pretty sure I know how to put it in. Please help. I really wanna go swimming. I was stuck in a cast up until the end of July, which made me unable to go swimming almost all summer.

Depending on your flow (heavy or light), your tampon should be leak proof for a few hours but make sure you have access to toilets in case you need to change it.  You should feel if you begin to leak (well, I do).  It shouldn't get stuck and can't go too far either so you don't need to worry about that.  The only time you may struggle a bit to get it out is if your flow is extremely light and the tampon is a bit dry (that has happened with me too) but that rarely happens.  It won't fall out either - just make sure you have it in properly (you will feel it if you haven't put in in far enough, it will be uncomfortable).
