pregnant w/ orarian cyst

My husband and I were just starting to entertain the idea of another baby, I have two ages 8 and 5.  My last period came early, and I bought ovulation predictors.  Obviously, I ovulated right after my period ended, within a day or so.  Exactly a week later I had cramping, abdominal pain and spotting.  Pretty irritated with this because we were trying for the 1st month, and not really expecting it to happen so soon, I took a home pregnancy test on day 13 of my cycle (last Monday), it was positive. I am very excited.  I went to the ER, because of the pain and spotting.  All tests were positive for pregnancy( blood and urine test), but they found a really big (bigger than normal) cyst on my ovary. Pain is not normal for a pregnancy this early, spotting is. Pain is normal for a cyst.  I am very nervous because of the very new pregnancy and the pain.  The ER doc. did not tell me how to distinguish pain from cysts versus pain from an abnormal pregnancy.  Is is normal with ovarian cysts to constantly feel pressure and pain and swelling in the abdominal area?  I wouldn't be so worried if I weren't pregnant.  I am no longer spotting at all, the hpt said positive again today.  Please let me know if you've been through this before and have experience pain throughout the pregnancy. Thankyou.

Pain like that is very typical as an ovarian cyst grows large.  I got them often for a period in my life, and they would sometimes hurt so much that I would pace the floor.  If they are SURE SURE SURE it is just a cyst and not an ectopic pregnancy or an ovarian pregnancy, and are SURE your baby is in the uterus where expected, then you might try one of these things for the pain.  1) Put a hot water bottle on the spot.  2)  Take a bath not too hot (because of the baby!!!) but warm enough to distract your body from the ache.  3)  I finally decided that if a cyst is really just liquid filling the pore in the ovary where the egg had come out, that had gotten somehow blocked and couldn't drain, I could massage it and cause it to drain.  This did work, to my surprise.  4) Tell the doc you can't stand it! and ask if they can drain it with a needle.

Don't waste any time on any of these if you do not know for sure that it is indeed a just a cyst.  If it's an ectopic pregnancy especially, you need to move pretty fast and not waste time with home remedies.

Good luck!

Thankyou, he told me it didnot look at all like an ectopic pregnancy, just a cyst ( I was worried as well about that).  But I am going back in on Monday for another ultra sound.  He did tell me if it were ectopic the pain would be very apparent.  I will talk to them about draining the cyst.
