Vaginal odor and pink discharge

Hi! I am 26 years old. Married for a year and 3 months. I have had no children & have head an I.U.D. (para guard) for about a year now. My period and discharge have not been predictable, to say the least, since the I.U.D. Last week...maybe week and a half I have had pinkish discharge, and an extremely itchy vagina. The discharge was thought the day, but the itchiness signed to only REALLY bother me in the evening. I began showing at night rather than the morning (probably 4d days ago) , wearing cotton panties, and no panties at night. This has seemed to clear up the pink discharge completely, & has nearly cleared up the itching.
My husband came home from being out of town yesterday, & after sex he made a comment about how strong the smell was afterward. He hates the smell off after sex and always has! So, I thought nothing of it until he noticed an odor tonight. I went to the bathroom, and checked my panties and noticed the smell was my discharge! I was terribly embarrassed! So, I showered, but a few hours later noticed I had a clear discharge, but that same odor was back!
I am about to stay my period, & don't know if that would have anything to do with it, but it has never smelled like this before.it isn't super strong, but I know it isn't my normal smell.
Can someone please help me with this? I don't know what the deal is and don't have health insurance to go get it checked out!

I am pretty sure you are probably right about me having a bv cause after i read your answer... I looked on the internet to see if there was such thing as an over the counter treatment and found something called VH Essentials... http://www.vhessentials.com/video.php
I took the just finished my round of treatments & am pretty sure it is cleared up. There is no itchiness, and the 3rd day into my treatment there was no odor, not even on the the applicator stick that is used to insert the pill in my vagina. however, i did start my period 4 days into the treatment, but didn't use any tampons and didn't have sex throughout the entire treatment. i told my husband about it and he is curious as to whether or not this infection can effect him. do you know anything about that?

it is a bacterial infection caused by an overgrowth of certain bacterias. they say almost 80% of women don't have symptoms but when they do it's often vaginal discharge that is usually more noticeable after sex and a bad odor. it is usually caused by multiple/new sex partners, iuds, douching and believe it or not - smoking. it usually does not have any serious complications if you get it cleared up, it is most commonly treated with an antibiotic called flagyl. the only effects it's going to have on you now is basically being uncomfortable.. itching, discharge, the odor.. but i would see a doctor as soon as you can

why did you get the paraguard if you haven't had any children? unless you have some sort of health problem that prevents you from having hormones, doctors are not supposed to give iuds to women who have not had children.

health insurance or not, you need to go to the doctor because it sounds like you have bacterial vaganosis. there is no over the counter medication for this, you need antibiotics. i would bet money that this is what you have.

i got BV for the first time after i got the paraguard put in, which was the worst decision i made for myself and it had to be removed less than a month after being put in. doctors are supposed to check you for any infections before putting an iud in because they can push the infection up and make it worse. you probably had a simple yeast infection before you got it put in and now it's turned into something worse. you need to get yourself to a doctor asap unless you want this to turn into something worse.
