unbearable period pain

Hello, I am almost 18 years old and for the last 3 or 4 years I have had horrible pain every month. It gets so bad that I can barely breathe, let alone go to work or to school. I am completely dysfunctional during the pains and I have tried every drug out there, hot water bottles, baths, everything. And nothing helps. I have had key hole surgery as my doctor suspected endometriosis, but I dont have that. Im not sure what to do... None of the gp's i've seen take me seriously, and im just getting so tired of it. Do any of You have some suggestions? I appreciate Your time, thank You.

I understand how you feel, sweetie. I was the exact same until 4 months ago when I finally was put on the birth control pill. Not only has this helped majorly with the pain but my periods only last two days now. I hope you find something to help you and I'm sorry to hear that you're suffering. Best wishes xo

Hi Hayleigh, thanks so much for the wishes, I am glad You found a remedy :) Unfortunately, I've tried the pill to no avail. It worked for the first month and then it just went back to the usual pain I always have. Have a lovely day.

Try taking magnesium 500 mg every morning and calcium and vitamin D every night.

Take ibuprofen for a few days starting about 2 weeks before your period to shut off the pain receptors (or something).  This is from something I read a long time ago.

You need to discuss the possibility of Endometriosis with your doctor. This explains severe period pain while even on the pill. There are treatments for it such as laparoscopic ablasion. Another treatment option I've heard positive things about is natural progesterone cream.

I wish you the best and hope you feel better soon. I understand how hard it can be when people can't understand the pain your in and assume its an overexageration.
Take care.

Hi Nel,

I've had severe pain since I started menstruating when I was 13, I am 30 now. To date I cannot work on at least one day of my cycle. The only things which have helped me are regular physical exercise, yoga and Evening Primrose oil supplements. I did a 3 month course of Evening Primrose oil (1000mg a day) and Vitamin E (400ui) a day. It has helped me tremendously. Along with that I have noticed that vitamin D levels make a huge difference to the intensity of the pain. Try keeping your levels up and avoid a lot of junk food during the week prior to your periods. Sorry for the long comment but hope I helped!

Hi Shane,

I appreciate Your advice, thank You for that. I have discussed endo with my gynaecologist and gp many times and I had key hole surgery as a result, but they did not find any endo, just a couple of blood-filled cysts, which apparently weren't causing me any harm. I will research the natural progesterone cream and see if it can help me.

Thanks again!

Hello Nehashah,

Okay, I will take Your advice and try out the supplements, I have heard from others that evening primrose is great, as well. I have used it before, but I must have not taken it for long enough.

Even now, the pain is still so bad that You can't go to work for a day?

Thank You for Your help :)
