Why is my period so light?

My period this month is extremely light. I have been on birth control (the Pill) for months now and my period comes like clock work and is not heavy but pretty regular. This month, my period is extremely light almost like spotting. I had an ultrasound for a different medical reason and the only abnormality was a couple fibroids. could that be the cause of my "weak" period?
