Yaz and side effects and benefits

I was told that Yaz is a new birth control pill.  I am used to 7 days of placebo pills rather than only 4.  Is Yaz's concentration any different from the common birth control pills? Is it like saying just taking longer birth control pills?  What are the side effects?  What are the benefits?  Has FDA approved?  Where i can search more about Yaz?  Will it affect my future plan of having a healthy pregnancy?  Also, i was told if i do want to get pregnant, i should wait 6 months after taking the birth control pills.  is that true?

I'm generally a thin person, but I've gained a little weight so far too. I'm also very bloated on this pill. I just hope it will start to level off the longer I'm on it!

I too have been taking Yaz for about 3 months & noticed a 10 lb. weight gain.  I had been on Yasmin for 2 years before that & did not notice this.  There is really not a good explanation for this weight except this pill. I still eat the same & exercise occasionally.  I normally weigh 115, so 10 lbs is a lot for me!  Has anyone found another alternative or did you go back to Yasmin?

I took Yaz for a while a couple of years ago, around the time it came out. I was already having problems with aniexty and depression. At the same time I was taking Lexapro. I thought Yaz was great because it was the only pill that i had taken that didn't make me nauseous or cause headache. BUT after not being on any birth control or any Lexapro for the last six months I decided it was time to try thie pills again. I started taking Yaz again at the end of Febuary. I did notice swollen breasts and some spotting after i missed a couple pills. No big deal. Then I started to notice that I was becoming short of breath, light headed, very anxious, angry. I just overall felt like I was going crazy. It got the worst on March 19, 2008. I was having pains in my chest and shortness of breath that sent me to the emergency room. Of course there was nothing phisically wrong. I followed up with my Dr's office the next day. She wanted to do more heart tests. I didn't feel that wasn't necessary. Given my history of anxiety and depression. She advised that I start Lexapro again but I didn't because since I had already started spotting and had missed a few pills last week, I stopped my pack of Yaz early. I have noticed a complete mood change in just the past few days.  I have no idea what made me search for Yaz side effects this morning, but I am glad I did. I never related my symptoms to the pill until i started reading other people's comments. I was dumb founded by how many people are having the same side effects. I WAS supposed to start a new pack tomorrow. I don't think I will be. This pill is DANGEROUS!!!! I have an appointmnet with my Dr. on Monday and Yaz will be the main topic of discussion. I suggest if ANYONE is taking this pill and have these same side effects..STOP!  Before something serious happens.

I took Yaz for over a year and just recently stopped.  I experienced sever depression which got worse and worse each month.  I didn't notice it at first because it happened so gradually.  I also had a lot of things going on in my life at the time (studying for the bar exam, starting a new job etc) so i was contributing my moodiness to stress.  But after the things in my life calmed down i noticed the depression and moodiness were still there and getting worse and worse.  I talked to my doctor and she is taking me off the pill - i have been a pill continuous for ten years so she feels my body needs a break.  She did tell me that she has had other patients who have experienced extreme depression on Yaz.  I am really nervous about going off the pill since i have been on it so long but i am willing to try anything at this point.  I feel so out of control at times with the mood swings etc.

I just take regular mini pill Microgestin Fe 1/20 back to back. I have done that for years. No side effects, no nothing (and I have severe endometriosis if I don't do this). PLEASE don't let anyone talk you into Depo Provera shots. That stuff is evil incarnate. It will stop your sex drive, just make you feel like a sexless piece of nothing. Hey, they give it to men to stop their sex drive, so what is up with that?

I suggest just trying a regular mini dose birth control without the breaks in between. Some doctors have a heard time believing this is healthy for you, but in life before ours, women were pregnantly constantly, suckling babies, and they heardly ever had regular menstrual cycles. Just doing the mini pill back to back has saved my life, and I was a person always in the emergency room, writhing from pain, had severe migraines, depression, etc. Good luck all!
