contractions at 34 weeks

i went swimming yesterday and felt a warm gush of liquid after being in for a couple minutes so i got out and felt it again...so i went to the er and they sent me up to labor and delivery and they used this little strip to see if my water had broken and it hadnt but i was having contractions so they gave me some sort of shot to stop them....well i'm feeling contractions again and my friend had the same problem...well they gave her the shot like 5 times to stop labor but the baby was in the birth canal and b/c they didn't just let her deliver the baby has water on the brain and is now mentally retarded...has any one else had a problem with the shot?

Hi I havent had the shot but I did have spotting at 34 weeks so went in and didnt come out until I had my baby because I wasnt happy with it and said I wanted to stay in. Im in UK not sure where u are but (Im guessing USA cos u said ER) but cant u go in and tell them ur not happy with this and get a scan etc? Im not sure of ur history so am hesitant to say wait it out cos a baby 6 weeks premie may need the special care unit. Try and not do strenous stuff like swimming and rest as much as pos and see if u can get it to go by itself. If not maybe you can go in tomorrow and say u dont want the shot, u must be allowed not to? Express ur concern about ur friend and if they try to say thats someone else and a dif pregnancy etc tell them ur not happy with it and ur not having it again until they do a scan or something like that.

All the best try and let us know how u and the lil one is doing. Try not to panic but be firm in what u want. (Could it be braxton hicks or was it a bit too strong for that, o and avoid warm baths!!\)

THERE IS NO CONNECTION BETWEEN THE BABY HAVING WATER IN THE BRAIN & SHOT STOP LABOR. WHEN ARE U GOING BACK TO YOUR DOCTOR?? EVEN U ASK UR CONCERN HE WILL TELL YOU THE SAME THING.

Hi im very sorry to hear about ur friend.. I understand exactly how it happened too, very sad!  i was in the hospital 2 nights ago and recieved the shot 4 times then they sent me home, i went to another Er the next day bc i was not happy with the first.. So still having contraction and not dialated at all, i got 2 more shots and a script for a pill method of the shot.. From what my doctor has told me you can only get the shot if you are NOT dialated and if ur pulse is under 120, this being because it can ruin the delivery and once started in canal there is no going up lol.. sorry to say!! i wish you luck in this but dont be afraid to ask ur doctor anything.. Trust me im on my second and had no idea i was having contracions bc i didnt know what it felt like, silly but true..
