dark brown discharge 2 wks after period ends

a little history- 28 yrs old, married, 4 c-sections, had last baby 1 year ago, menses returned about 6 months ago, regular ever since, but very very heavy and longer and worse cramps than before last baby.
now my question is this-my last period ended about 2 weeks ago.  i was just woken up with severe cramping and went to the bathroom to find i had a thin dark brown discharge from my vagina.  it has no smell and no clots.  is this anything anyone has seen before?  if so...what was the cause?

Not sure but had similar. Doctor told me it was just the uterus still getting out old lining  and getting back to normal. But if you are bleeding heavily than ever with the severe cramps, then get to doctor. Dark blood always means old. So since your periods just came back only 6 months ago, I am leaning towards the getting back to normal theory. But you know it never hurts to ask the Doc, heck call em.

I know this is 2 years late, but I was just informed that dark or discolored discharge with an odor and / or cramping IS a sign of a bacterial infection in your cervix that needs to be treated. A regular PAP would confirm whether this is your case or not. But if it is cervical bacteria, it has to be treated so that you don't end up unable to bear children, or spread the bacteria to a sexual partner.

Thanks for the information.  I went to see a doctor two weeks after my period started and I was told I have cervicitis.  I was given Zithromycin and the following day, I started discharging brown blood (it's been continuous for two days).  It's not painful or anything. So does this mean that my cervis is being cleaned out?  Is there something I need to worry about?  Thanks.
