discharge before period, and clots w/ period

to start I'm a virgin, and i have very regular periods. however this past period i had a brown/ bloody discharge when i wipped a week prior to my period then i got my period and had a flooding episode. I was wearing a tampoon and soaked through the tampoon, then when i removed the tampooon i started gushing blood and passed large clots, this lasted maybe 30 seconds but felt like it was never going to end. my period lasted the normal amount of days, about 5, then ended on the 5th day with some very lite pink discharge when i wipe. i made an appt. w/ my gyn but i'm scared as to what this is. Any answers?

hi SS.  when i was in my teens i had very clotty heavy periods.  even after i had sex, they were still heavy.  it wasn't until i had children that they became lighter and not so clotty.  but i have PCOS and i must have had it in my teens too and didn't know it.  you could just be normal. or there could be something else going on.  but you need to see your doc to find out what it could be if it is not normal.  i hope it is all ok.  hth.

Sounds normal to me. Periods can be variable from cycle to cycle. I would not worry.

this just sounds very normal to me? i experience this as well and personally dont feel you have much to worry about. our periods change over time heavy, light, lasting a few days, lasting a week, late, early, brown discharge, clots.. it just seems normal. its good that you have an appt. are you sexually active? on birth control? any new meds? stress? new exercise routine? these may have an impact but when you do go to your dr. just make mention of it so you will feel better mentally. maybe someone else has a suggestion as to a possible concern but again, id say... typical.
