Remember that men hang their stuff in the toilet for number 2. Poop splashes on the hang stuf. Bacteria is formed. He takes a not so good shower, not really washing his tool. Bacteria remain embedded in skin. He inserts in you, bacteria multiply. Tell him to wash shaft really well, everyday. See the difference? Take it from me, I have been there. What he puts in is what he gets back but you have to deal with his junk left within.

So I had sex with my boyfriend about a week ago, we had an "accident" where some of his seman got on me because we weren't being too careful..
Uhm, now I am having urges to pee but it feels more like a light stinging pain. I also have very watery discharge. Strong smelling urine, and I can smell the odor through out the day even when my clothes are on. I am having small acute adominal (abdominal) pains and it increases when I go to the bathroom.
He has none of these symptoms...
Should I be worried?????

Sounds like a Urinary Tract Infection. See a doctor about it, and they can test you for it. If that's what you have, they'll be able to give you what you need to take care of it.

I noticed getting this fishy odor less than a year ago after I got my first yeast infection.  I don't like to take antibiotics because it doesn't really seem to help in the long run and it kills all the natural flora in your body, which makes you more susceptible to more infections and overall sickness. I've omitted most processed sugar from my diet, have yogurt almost every day, take acidophilus pills daily, and I also take Bragg's apple cider vinegar 1 tsp diluted in a tall glass of water with organic honey to taste. It works wonders!! I find if I go back to eating just a bit too much processed sugar, it comes back again. I hope this might help some of you ladies. It's such a pain and very embarrassing especially when others around you can smell it.

Ok, so i just found this article that totally made sense. In the past, bacterial Vaginosis was diagnosed by placing a drop of Potassium hydroxide testing solution onto a sample of the discharge. If the vaginosis was present the result was usually a strong "fishy" odor. Well, Potassium Hydroxide and Sodium Hydroxide are both forms of lye and both are present in hundreds of common bath soaps and skin lotions. So how I figured this out is that the strong fishy odor for me was noticeable ONLY when I showered and used soap down there. It made no sense, until I realized that I was essentially using the above diagnostic method without even realizing it and exacerbating the problem, or enhancing the odor! So I'd assume that lots of women may be doing this, washing more to eliminate the odor while actually what it's doing is unmasking the odor even more. In other words, the more you wash (with soap), the more it smells. The bacterial infection is present regardless of how strong or noticeable the odor is, soap or no soap, and can be treated successfully with anitbiotics.

These Post I Can Sure Relate To ; My Boyfriend Gave Me Chlamydia 2 Months Aqo, Fishy Odor Was The Main Symptom. He Still Hasn't Been Cured Since He Doesn't Have Insurance But We Do Use Protection Since I've Been Cured And The Odor Usually Comes Durinq Sex I Still Have The Same Problem And I've Gone To My Doctor And He Said I'm Okay No Infections Or Nothinq So I'm Not Sure What The Problem Is But I Was Also Preqnant At The Time And I Had An Abortion Because Of The Chlamydia So I'm Thinkinq It's Just That My Body Is Cleasinq Itself Out From The Abortion And Chlamydia All I've Got To Say Is Make Sure You Go To Your Doctor And Check Yourselves Because Most STD's Symptoms Include Fishy Odor. Hope I Helped.

I have experienced this for years. Its never consistent and comes and goes throughout the year. Never could find out what actually triggered the odor. Been given treatments for bacterial vaginosis, which I found out the hard way that antibiotics give me yeast infections. After so many visits to the doctors office and a lot of money on over the counter products (vagisil, summers eve, etc.). After a lot of research I found that you need daily amounts of folic acid, no scented lotions/body wash, cotton underwear, wear no underwear at night to allow everything to "breathe", and I could keep going on with lists of things doctors recommend.
In September 2010 I came across (in the feminine section at any CVS, Wallgreens, Walmart, RiteAid, etc.) a pill that you take once a day that levels out the amounts of PH in your body... its called REPHRESH...
It has been the answer to all my prayers, I always thought I was "dirty" and abnormal because of the odor I encountered on a regular basis that I had tried everything to manage.
REPHRESH can be a little expensive ($30/bottle for 30 pills.. one a day) But it is worth it!! I take it every day with my birth control pill and have never been so satisfied with a product in my life!

I have had a vaginal odor since I was in the 7th grade back in 1999. I was 12 or 13 years old. I got my period in the 6th grade and noticed the odor a year later. I am 24 now, 25 in November. I refuse for a doctor to examine me because I am too embarassed. My first Gyno appointment I cried and begged for him not to make me get undressed and lay on that table with my legs in sturrups for my odor to be released. I was mortified. I have not been back to a Gyno since. I am desperate for some help. I have 3 sisters who seem to be healthy down there and I am the only one who isn't. Plus all my sisters are 120 pounds or lighter, and I am not. I have no pain, no swelling, not any irregular discharge and my periods are consistant and regular (just heavy). I constantly am aware of the odor and won't sit or stand close to others b/c the smell is that strong. My friend once said it smelled like a "feminine trash can".  I need help, I need a cure, or a way to make the odor less noticable.

i just read awhile ago that u can get a vaginal vaginosis if u keep on washing your vagina or keep on having sex.there isnt any cure yet for re-occurance of vaginal vaginosis but there is a remedy on how to stop or should i say a on how to lessen vaginal smell the fishy one and on how to decrease the bad bacteria on increasing inside the vagina.its like this.if u keep on wahing the vagina or douching it may decrease the good bacteria inside our vagina therefor bad bacteria will multiply.it says that the vagina will clean it self but of course it doesnt mean that u should not wash it at all.vagina's good bacteria and bad bacteria inside it should be always in balance so u wont get bacterial vaginosis/vagina vaginosis.u can use some alternative or first aid washing inside the vagina by getting a sterile 10-30cc syringe, dilute a 3% hydrogen peroxide on a cup,add water on it until the two is fully mixed up.after that take off the needle of the syringe coz that isnt going to be used.extract then the mixed liquid and gently put the syringe inside the vagina until where u are comfortable to it.then gently pushed the solutioninside the vagina so it will take away the excessive bad bacteria and for the cleaning of the walls of the vagina.take note that this is only a first aid of it and not a permanent cure.it will be cured for some but for some...it re-occurs.but atleast for sometime,u had a chance to sleep where itchiness and smeel free vagina is off.do it once a day.if vagina vaginosis occurs again,u can do what ive said and after that u can seek a doctor for further cure of the smeel itchy vagina u are havin.this is my e-mail.mis_cath_19***@****

dont be afraid to go to the doctor.doctor's knows best than u.but ofcors u can do what i just posted but how about your own safety or should i say reputation on other people who smeels your odor.u woudnt say your the one that smells...ofcourse..but behind your back they might be talking about you.=( .. u can try my first aid for atleast it is safe.u may feel a bit tingling sensation inside your vagina but it will dis appear soon once it is out.be brave on telling your problem on your doctor and be brave to have it checked.atleast u know what's going on inside u before its too late..yah?...=) ..just a friendly advice.ive felt what u are in ayt now and it *****..im havin it too but im taking medications on it.just now.i put a vaginal suppository inside my vagina.and it is working ayt now.for atleast im not afrain on goin to my ob to have it checked.metronidazole is my med ayt now and yah,to tell u,it isnt over the counter med.u need to have a doctors permission before u can go to the pharmacy to buy it.it toke away 500php to buy just a 3 piece of it.im gonna be taking the meds once aday for 7 days.u see?...but atleast im saved for 3 days.i still have to buy the 4 remaining when i get my money.u know how it causes me not to buy the other remaining 4?...because its too high the price.i cant afford to buy it at one time...what im tellin u is that if u have the oppurtunity to take my suggested first-aid,u should.before going to the doctor and the antibiotic permission will take charge your money...think of it sister..=)

I have heard vaginal odor can be an imbalance in pH and of course something like an infection. At any rate, it is a sad misconception that "all women have odors all the time. A man has an odor "down there" by the end of the day as well, as I am sure most of us has caught a wift of it. Our bodies were designed to self clean on the inside, so a feminine secretions should smell like nothing or as mild as a man's semen odor. The fact of the matter is God made no mistake when he made women, therefore, we don't "just stink". If a woman (or a man) has an odor that will not go away, PLEASE get it checked out to make sure there is no underlying infection or something.

Good luck as no one deserves to be going through this.

I had a foul odor for quite some time and was very concerned about it. I have been celibate for several years so I know that it was not related to STDs. I was recently diagnosed as having a wheat intolerance and as soon as I cut wheat out of my diet the vaginal odor is gone. So basically sometimes the foods we ingest can affect our balance in our vagina. It's worth getting yourself checked out if you have food intolerances. Hope this helps!

Couple of questions that may help guide others to a good enough answer for you, dear.

First, assuming you're adult (reference to 'ex'), you problably already know your body smells and discharges pretty well. When did you last feel like you were the way you should be?

2nd, what kind of smell is it, e.g. just strong sex or vaginal odour, or something 'off', which could indicate some infection or a condition that should be treated?

Lastly, have you visited your gyn in the recent past to have a screen for health issues? If you have always had a 'wet' bottom, don't feel alone. I, too am 'blessed'. If this represents a CHANGE, however, you might be able to find a medical solution to your worries.

BTW, I wouldn't worry about your past boyfriend complaining about vaginal smells. Some men are clueless, and the term 'normal' is highly relative and varies from woman to woman. Good luck with your new bf. Hope he is a 'keeper' :-)

It is bv (bacterial vaginosis) and it is a HORRIBLE infection that can pretty much ruin your life in my opinion. So I got an iud and about 10 months after noticed a smell and discharge. It turned out to be BV which is often caused by having an iud. So I got antibiotics and it came back over and over again. I finally did some research online and (you don't have to do this if you're not comfortable) but I read about hydrogen peroxide. The vagina creates it's own hydrogen peroxide to begin with and I asked my doctor about this home remedy and he told me to try it. So you use 3% hydrogen peroxide and use a dropper. You insert it into your vagina and squirt the peroxide up there. You leave it in for about 3-5 minutes (do it laying down so it stays in) do this everyday for a week and then once a week afterwards until all symptoms are gone. The very SECOND I did this, the odor was gone! 100% gone!!!!!! I actually cried! I was so happy! It has been 6 months now with no recurrence! My doctor did tests and I have no signs of BV at all and he was shocked. I also eat yogurt everyday with probiotics in it and I take folic acid as well as probiotics. I am finally normal again and feel great! I did a ton of research on this treatment and it's truly amazing! The cure rate for BV using peroxide is 96%! you mix it with the other things as well and it goes up even higher! Do some research on it. I guarantee it will work for you!!!!! I didn't think there was any hope for me. I was wrong! Peroxide is the best thing that has ever happened to me!!! Seriously! And I DO NOT recommend the iud to ANYONE! I had such horrible side effects from it. It ruined my life for awhile! I hope this helps you!!!! I cannot stress enough how amazing this works!

TAKE A TAMPON AND DIP IT IN PLAIN YOGURT. insert in your vagina. Leave it there for about an hour. wash off. this WILL help you with any odors, infections, etc you may have. before you go and weaken your body's natural defense system with drugs/antibiotics, do this. if this does not work, then you absolutely should see a physician.

it could be because you have so many sexual partner that you obtain and odor. Many man carry there on odor and somethime man do clean around the head of the penis as will as women do. I think you should try not to have sex for a while and give the body time to clean itself. I wish you good luck.

I am 36 years old and Have been with 6 sexual partners in my lifetime. I just go back with my children's father about eight months ago. We had alot of sex but then I started getting Bacteria Vaginosis and yeast infections like mad. Get medical attention, tell your Doctor:

1) Two things BV and/or yeast should be treated at the same time with a pill (yeast) and vaginal gel (BV) combination.

2) If you are getting a reoccurring BV infection, you have Tricomones a low end STD that is so close to BV it is scary and men don't have symptoms like ever. Get treated for this both you and your partner.

Eat yogurt and drink Cranberry juice 100% do not douche this will be bad business, use no fragrance soaps not directly applied on the vagina, unless really bad discharges have occurred.

Hi. I'm 16 years old and for 5 years, i have been experiencing vaginal odors. It's very embarassing. I'm a virgin, very irregular period (got it about a year ago, year and a half) and VERY scared to go to the gyn. Couple months ago, my mom bought me canesten, thinking i had a yeast infection. It didn't change anything... What should i do? Help me please. Tho everyday, my panties are full of sweat and i'm always... wet (vagina)?, i noticed, that if i ate too much candy/chocolate, the odor is so much stronger and there is much more fluid, the next day. I'm so scared that people around me in class can smell it or something... Any solutions?!

If the otc yeast infection medication didn't work, go to your doc and have her do an exam. Ask her to prescribe fluconazole if you turn out to have a yeast infection. It's an oral Rx, single to two pills, depending on what your doc prescribes, that you take. No messy creams or suppositories. I've had repetitive YI and BV throughout my adult life (thanks to an ex-husband who was a ******************* ************) Anyway! The person who is best able to help you is a certified practitioner.

Tip: If you're prone to YI when using Rx antibiotics, ask your gyn to also prescribe you a Rx to prevent YIs.

Girls, something else to look into is vestibular vaginitis - which I do have. It's a result of having too many yeast infections. Even though your YI has gone away, your body - the nerves especially - may be responding like it still has one. I've been in to my doc for pain, itching, stinging, swelling and redness, and "odor" and haven't had an infection. If this is the case for you, look into it. :)

To Everyone else who is afraid to go to your doctor. Let me put this very bluntly. Your vagina is beautiful and unique to you...but it is also only a vagina and your physician has seen many of them. Don't be embarrassed to get help. It's disrespectful to yourself and your own body to not be seen by a gynecologist. Plus, it's better to go through the few moments of embarrassment and be treated and get better than to avoid it all together and feel like utter sh**, right?

Finally:
Don't stick anything up your vagina that isn't prescribed to you! Ex: Unless you hear from your own doctor's lips to put yogurt on a tampon and shove it up there, don't. Avoid anything with glycerin in it - BE CAREFUL of lubes especially. It's not as highly known as it should be that glycerin can cause YI and I didn't even know they were in lubes until my CNP told me about it. (Also, if you use any masterbatory aids (vibrators, etc.,) thoroughly clean them before and after each use, also with dye- and scent-free soup.) Dove non-scented, dye-free soap is what I've been told to use by my CNP. Also, don't use ANYTHING with scents - Summers Eve sprays, douching, etc. - because the chemicals that make up the "fragrance" can cause BV and YI. If you must use a wet-wipe during your period, try using sensitive skin, scent-free baby wipes.

Don't use bubble bath or bath salts, also because of fragrances and oils. Don't shave your legs or wash your hair and/or body, while sitting in a tub of water. I relax in a tub, sit on the edge of the tub to shave and suds up my body, then shower quick to wash my hair and rinse everything off. This seems to help, too. Oh, and wipe front to back, not back to front, even if you've only urinated. Use cotton pads during your period, not tampons, and make sure to change them every time you go to the bathroom to avoid holding bacteria so close to your body. Tampons harbor bacteria. I had a friend who kept getting YI and they went away when she stopped using tampons.

Yogurts have acidophilis which is a probiotic that helps with digestion and maintaining happy girl parts. Cranberries are a diuretic - they flush impurities out of your system. So drinking a glass of cranberry juice a day will also help you to keep a clearer urinary system. Water (even if it ***** and is icky, imo) is also good for your entire body.
Finally, I will re-iterate on what other posters have said:

PEE AFTER YOU HAVE SEX! It is important to do that.

Your body is like a self-cleaning oven...let it do its job.

Aside from diet, yogurt, wearing breathable underwear and all those other recommendations WASHING IS VERY IMPORTANT. Don't just wipe with toilet paper and/or wet wipes especially after defecating it's important to wash when you can. You're not meant to wash inside your vagina, there shouldn't be any odor inside your vagina unless you have some kind of infection or imbalance. But you certainly MUST wash the vulva, between the folds of skin just outside your vagina (between your main slit, around your clitoris too)...we sweat in that area, urination gets left behind as well as other secretions, bits of TP etc...so of course it'll get smelly like any other part of your body if not washed properly. Here's a couple of websites that can help with improving female hygiene (without using any of those feminine products you see on TV):

I don't know about you but since I was a little girl my mother taught me to wash that area, she explained it gently and there was nothing to it...cup your hand and splash warm water in the area and gently with your fingers rub around and between the folds using a very mild soap/body wash...try cetaphil or baby wash or unscented dove moisturizing body wash to clean the area (do not go in your vagina and watch your nails, never douche unless told by your physician as this dries out your vagina and could cause problems) ...squat in the tub/shower if you have to (or put one foot up on a ledge if you can) and using a hand held shower head is even better. Wash the area twice a day. You must also wash around your anus to get rid of any extra feces left behind. Pat dry with a towel, and sometimes I even use my hairdryer (must be on cool setting)...keeping the area dry is important too.

Everyone of my female relatives including myself have never had bad odor problems down there and we've all been taught to wash since childhood. I think it may depend on your upbringing, as some of my friends say their mothers taught them and some of them say they didn't or that they didn't have a mother to teach them and those that didn't are always the ones coming to me with their "odor" problems. I also noticed guys/boyfriends telling me how women they'd been with in the past smell especially during sex...and were pleasantly surprised to find that I don't smell.

Granted we all have smells, especially after a busy day of running around, but if you wash daily it shouldn't be unpleasant or offensive to the point that it makes anyone complain about it, our natural aroma should turn them on...my fiance loves going down on me and so should any guy/gal you're with, love going down on you too.
You should be able to feel confident about yourself, be as close as you want to people and sit or stand however you please without being self conscious about any kind of odor.

I hope this helps...I'm only trying to look out for my fellow females. It is unfair when men generalize about girls and women having smelly genitals...because it just isn't true!

I'm only 21 and I'm experiencing the same kind of smell :( ifind it so embarrasing it makes me wanna cry. I'm sexually active with my boyfriend. We did it one day in the morning. Then when I wanted to gice him a ******* layer on that day I couldn't because the smell ofmy vagina was on his **** and I couldn't stand it. It even tasted weird. I wasn't like this before. Could it have been after fiving birth? Or why is this happening to me? Even with my period, the odor keeps getting worse as the years go by :(

I have recently gone off my anti depressant unexpectedly due to financial hardship. So now I am having withdrawal symptoms. Hot flashes w/sweating, brain shocks and nausea. Along with all that the only good part is that I can get aroused again without complication (due to the meds side effects).
My husband just informed me that since I went off the meds that my vagina has developed a peculiar odor, its there even after a shower. I didn't notice this because my head is in such a haywire, I am more aware of the hot flashes and brain shivers and what not than anything else.Has anyone ever experienced this ?? Please help!!!

My girlfriend has a strong vaginal odor which I mentioned to her the other day. She didn't take it very well, but it's much stronger than anyone I've ever been with. The relationship is kind of on the rocks and I feel like she isn't going to take this seriously but frankly I think this is going to be a major problem for her in the future and whatever may happen I genuinely do only want the best for her. As it stands there's no way she would go to the extent that some of the posters here have. Does anyone have any advice on how I can get through to her without being insulting?

I am 15 years old, and I am a virgin. I will look at my underwear after a couple hours of wearing them and see white stuff in it. I also see that my underwear is slightly wet, as if I peed in my pants, though I never did. What is this??? I have a boyfriend, and I am afraid to do anything but kiss him because of this. Also, I will notice that my vagina smells. The scent isn't horrible, but it isn't nice. Why does my vagina smell? Is this normal?

Hi, your vulva has one basic issue. Your vaginal ph is too alkaline. You are too clean, speaking from a microbial sense. You need to focus on making your blood and body less acidic, and to bring back healthy intestional flora that will naturally reregulate your vaginas normal healthy state. Taking pro biotics can greatly help as well. If the bottle states to only take 1 or 2 twice daily, I actually take 5 or 6 twice or thrice daily. But that's just me, and believe me, u see results admediately. You and your sweetheart may need flagyl 1,000 mg at a one time dosage just to make sure you both don't have trichamosis. Btw, pro biotics are practically yougart in capsule form and no one ever died from eating lots of yougart. Might wanna do this. But as far as making your body alkaline. You would need to completely avoid soda of all kinds. All powerful simple sugars such as corn syrup. It is poison and extremely acidic. Please do some research on how to adjust ur blood chemistry as you regain your body's strength. Because right now, it isn't properly handling what nature means for it to handle. Your sweetheart needs to do this too. His body will continue to introduce into your system the same means to keep your vagina thrown off as far as ph is concerned. A diet of 80% alkaline foods and 20% acidic will start u off to realigning your chemistry, then to follow up with 60% alkaline and 40% acidic thereafter. Some fantastic foods to get u started are lemons (I would add half a lemons juice to every full glass of water I drink!) Grapefruits are truly disgusting but have for centuries been considered ambrosia (food of the gods). Just adding sugar to them defeats the purpose of eating it. Sugar is highly acidic. Celery is fantastic! Drink distilled or reverse osmosis water. Lots of organic true green tea. Salads. Stay away from red meats primarily and consume fish. When I began this in order to regain my health, I discovered I had round worms. Disgusting, I coulda died! But turns out, grapefruit will expell some parasites, if eaten in large quantity or supplemented strongly. It is fantastic. Needless to say I bolted for my doc! Note one thing: cancer and parasites cannot (CANNOT) survive in an alkaline environment. They need an acidic environment in order to survive and thrive. Fix your blood and body ph and see your vaginal issue dissapear, as mine didl.   I hope this helps you out gurl!
