My period start this morning stopped by lunch and started again late afternoon

I am 40 years old and I am wondering if anyone might know why this happened as it has never happened before, I have asked my mum and my sister and a friend, my mum doesn't know, and my sister says it could be early menopause and my friend says I could be pregnant.

It happens to me all the time.  Has done since I was a teenager.  My period starts and stops all the way through. If you are noticing something that's new to you however it could just be your age.  If you were pregnant you would generally bleed much lighter if you bled at all and you would most likely get a positive test.
