has anyone experienced this?

hello,I'm 25 years old and about a week ago i had a pap smear and found out I'm 15weeks pregnant, i got a call a couple days ago from my gyno saying my pap smear came back abnormal and all my cultures where negative not sure what that means? and that my hpv test was also negative. i have never had an abnormal pap smear i just had a baby in 2011 and have been with my husband for going on 4 years now. has anyone had this happened to? i don't know whats really going on because the only time I've heard of a women having an abnormal pap is being from hpv. My doctor wants me to have another pap done on my 6 weeks post partum check up.Any help on what this could be would be appreciated!

I knew i was pregnant thats when i found out i was 15 weeks pregnant! Im pretty sure std testing is part of a pap smear especially when pregnant. As i stated all my cutlers where NEGATIVE. My doctor does not know what it is. this why I'm trying to find out if anyone has experienced this and what was they're outcome.

Hi there.  Well, congrats on the pregnancy.  Wow, you are 15 weeks along and you had no idea?  That's unusual!!

So, there are reasons for abnormal paps without HPV such as recent sexual activity.  Believe it or not, that can throw the pap off.  Sexually transmitted diseases----  ugh, these can throw it off.  Have you had testing for std's any time recently.  I know you are married but . . .   well.  better to just rule it out.  Inflammation can cause an abnormal pap as can a vaginal infection.  Dysplasia (pre cancerous) cells CAN happen without HPV occasionally.

I would talk to your doctor on one of your prenatal visits to discuss the results and what your next step is.  good luck
