hormones out of control

Years ago I started having problems with bleeding between periods. My gyno said hormonal, take the pill. Two years ago I stopped taking the pill, had spotting consistently every month about day 20, continuing until I got my period. This past October I decided to take birth control again because all the spotting was not doing much for my relationship. I went to PP because I'm unemployed and no insurance. First they put me on progestin only because I'm over 35 and I smoked at the time. That didn't help at all with the spotting, made it happen for a longer time. Then they told me to try depo, said that should stop the bleeding. That made it worse. I would just start bleeding like a heavy period with no warning. I quit smoking so I could take the regular pill, but the doc I dealt with was worried I would smoke so she would only give me low estrogen pills. I have been bleeding for almost a full month, this being the third week into my first pack of Ortho Tricyclen Lo. Is this ever going to stop? All the doctors I've spoken with are certain it's hormonal because of the consistency of the spotting starting at the same time while not taking any form of birth control. Am I wasting my time with the low estrogen pill or am I just destined to end my sex life and have bleeding every day til menopause? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you....I have had ultrasound to check for cysts, and the last yearly a few months ago she said she didn't feel any fibroids...so I feel confident that's not the issue...this is just so annoying, and not ready for anything drastic or permanent like ablation or hysterectomy.

Get a second opinon. Sounds like you may have PCOS. Get bloodwork and an ultrasound to make sure you do not have cysts or endo or fibroids. I take Yasmin bc and never have problems with it.
