1. A small percentage of women are born without a hymen
2. Some women break their hymen using tampons
3. Some women break their hymen playing various sports, riding a bike, or some strenuous exercise.
4. Some women break their hymen due to an accident in which they get hit there, or fall on that place.
5. Some women just don't bleed when their hymen breaks.
6. Rarely, some women's hymen doesn't break the first time or the first several times, they have sex.  Depending on the type of hymen you have, it may sort of "fold over" as the penis passes.  If the hymen didn't already break/tear before your first time having sex, not breaking the first time would be a little more likely the smaller the penis is.  If you unhappy with your husband because he doesn't believe you when you tell him you are a virgin (because you didn't bleed), you might just throw it back at him with a comment about his penis size . . .

Breaking the hymen is something that you might not even notice. The first time I had sex, my husband was very gentle and went slowly. It felt a little tight, but there was no ripping, tearing, or bleeding.

Thank you for your replies.you're right, virginity has lots of definitions. I was interested more in knowing about the break of the hymen. so unless u insert something in the vagina, the hymen cannot be torn, right? rubbing from the outside can not do that?

It all depends on your definition of virginity. Usually, like KJSK said, you are until you've had sexual intercourse with a man. However, if you're from a culture where having sex for the first time must result in slight bleeding from breaking the hymen, then your definition of virginity is different. In that case, numerous things other than sex can break the hymen - tampons, manual stimulation, etc. But, for most, that's not a deal breaker (no pun intended).

there is a website called www.coolnurse.com and it talks a lot about the hymen. the hymen is a layer of tissue that is part of the vulva. it partially conceals your vaginal opening. some girls hymen can be broken during sports, horseback riding, gymnastics, biking... and may not even know it. some "break" when inserting something and some do not. it depends on how "elastic" you are. check out the website.

you wont break your hymen by masterbating, even if you have an orgasm you are still a virgin. i remember i was with a guy who was a very big football player. we were "fooling around" and he inserted his finger in me and broke my hymen. (i never had sexual intercourse before). there was some blood and i was scared. some would say i lost my virginity w. him and others believe when you have intercourse for the first time is when you lose your virginity. either way, you are more than safe masterbating and will still be a virgin.
