hysterectomy and quick release

this question is for my mom. she is 57 with horrible fibroids on her uterus. she is finally haveing it and the ovaries removed.  they are going to do it by 3 small incision ( a lap) and she will go home that day.  is this normal now to go home the same day?  i know she isnt having a large incision but it concerns me that still she is having parts removed!  i will stay with her but im nervous about bleeding.  maybe this is how its done and im being too sissy about it.  ive lost my dad, i am just scared for something to go wrong.

I had that surgery done in Jan.  they just took my uterus and left everything else.  I went home that night because I didn't have any pain.  They did it with three small wholes like you mother is going to have.  The doc was wanting me to stay overnight as they had just taken out an organ, but I didn't hurt and I didn't see the point in staying.  It might be your insurance company is requiring her to go home.  People think that it is the hospitals wanting people in and out.  Heck no, they want your money, the problem is with insurance companies not wanting to pay.  She will be fine though.  If she does for some reason have a bunch of pain, they won't send her home, but before hand your insurance company probably pre authorized the surgery and said what they will and will not cover.  She will be fine with some relaxation.

I'm not sure if it's normal to be sent home on the same day after something like that, but I think anymore patients are being sent home after alot of procedures as long as it wasn't complicated in any way. This is due to insurance companies anymore alot of time they will only cover a certain amount of time in the hospital and I think that's why they send people home on same day procedures more often these days. My dad has MS and he went in for a colonoscopy and was sent home the same day, which I couldn't figure out why....with the MS and all, but he ended up back there the next day because they perforated his colon. You're not being a sissy about it. Of course you're worried...and with good cause. Before they release her just make sure they tell you what to look for, like indidcations of bleeding and when to worry. It's good that you're staying with her and keeping an eye out. It's ok to be over-cautious. I think your instincts will also let you know when somethings not right. Good luck with that and I hope everything goes smoothly for your mom and you.
