Also, if you are not already, take some extra folic acid (folate, a B-vitamin) along with your prenatal vitamin.  Check into some of the dietary suggestions for preggo ladies, such as reducing sugar, cutting out caffeine, absolutely no alcohol.  Also, pick up at the library or bookstore one of the good books that give you the basics, such as "Your Pregnancy Week By Week" (gee, now that I type this, I'm not sure that is the exact title, but I loaned my copy out so I can't check) or whatever book looks the most sensible to you.  Congratulations!  You'll love being pregnant!  Annie

Congrats on your BFP!!!!! with my dr. i called and scheduled an appt. but it wasnt until i was almost done with the first trimester, i was 11 weeks, which kinda stinks, but apparently in minnesota, thats how it's done. Good luck to you, now the waiting really begins LOL!!!

Most doctors do not schedule your first visit until you are 8 weeks along.

Yes, you can call and make the appointment. They may not need to see you right away, but they will at least schedule you to come in.

Really? With my doctor, they'll schedule you to come in once you get your BFP. The first appointment is usually with his nurse, though.

My docs always let me come in to take one of their tests.. to confirm.. and to give samples of prenatal vitamins and to give you a big package of info to try and go through...

Yep, I worked 5 years in ob-gyn and like I said the majority of docs do not want you to come in until something can be visualized with a hb on u/s.  They do not mind if you want to come in a take a urine/blood pregnancy test.

Here's hoping that your Doc is like all of mine have been... immediate visit to confirm pg. and get medical history, exam and blood work up for any problems.

I can't imagine why Drs. wouldn't want an immediate confirmation and all the info and tests done.  Yes, I still had to wait for an ultrasound until I was 8-12 weeks.

It's a ggod idea to call in any case, though!  That way they have plenty of time to schedule you in.

My doc wanted to wait until 2 cycles were missed.  I was 9 1/2 weeks at my first visit and that is when i had my first ultrasound.

Yeah, my doctor sounds more like yours. The first appt was with his nurse. She calculated my due date, checked my weight, confirmed with a urine test, stuff like that. The doc doesn't do an u/s until your at least 8 weeks, though, if everything is progressing normally.

You need to call your obgyn and schedule your first prenatal appointment. Also, you should be taking prenatal vitamins if you aren't already.
