Failed D

Has anyone ever heard of a D&C being unsuccessful?  I'm a 64 year old who was urged to undergo this to test for endometrial cancer as the lining of my uterus was abnormally thick.    I thought I underwent the procedure (cramping/bleeding afterwards) and waited eagerly to hear the pathology report.  I called and called but it wasn't in yet, according to the nurses.  I felt relieved as no one contacted me so I figured it checked out fine.  Finally went for my 4 week follow up visit and the doctor tells me that he couldn't do it.  He tried and tried but could dialate my cervix!  He said the only other thing he could think of (but wouldn't suggest it) was a hystorectomy - otherwise to leave it alone. I was just was hoping to hear if anyone else ever ran into this??

OMG!  They didn't tell you that it wasn't completed???  That's absurd.  Gosh, are you having any symptoms?  So basically you won't know if it could be cancer unless he removes it all?  I'm sorry for all the questions, I guess I am just dumbfounded....just as you must be!

I had a D&C less than a month ago one, because of a M/C and because the lining of my uterus was too thick. So I got the D&C and they scraped everything out, but in just a few days the lining came right back. They said that I failed the D&C and the only thing left to do was a hysterectomy....which I had last week. I'm suprised that your Dr. didn't tell you something right away. You should get back into see your Dr. and figure out the next step or get a second opinion. I wouldn't wait on something like this. I hope everything turns out ok.

were you under a local or general?  in any event, i'm shocked that they didn't immediately tell you that it couldn't be done!  i had an attempted D&C in my doc's office.  my cervix was totally stenotic and she just couldn't get it to dilate.  i had to go to the hospital and have it done under a general.  i had the results in one or two weeks (sorry - it was only june and i've already forgotten!).  they need to give you an explanation!  you might want to consider going elsewhere to have it performed.

did your doctor recommend a hysterectomy or a histerscopy - i think that's how it's spelled?  after posting i re-read your post.  you need this evaluated, and i would seriously seek another gyn!
