Well I went for my repeat sonogram today and I saw the baby, yolk sac, heartbeat and all no empty sac this time with an estimated due date of June 1st....thank you for your answer it was very helpful!!!!!!! : )
Thank you so much for the helpful words of advice I truly do appreciate it...this has been the longest week of my life....I go in tomorrow morning for a repeat sonogram at which time I should be just at 7 weeks....I'm trying not to get my hopes up or down at this point...just praying that everything is okay...I will keep you informed though...again thank you very much.
Hello,
The yolk sac first becomes visible around 5.5 weeks of gestation, seeing no yolk sac on an ultrasound could simply mean that the pregnancy is not yet 5.5 weeks along. Your gestational sac corresponds to 5 weeks pregnancy and hence you have been asked to wait for 2 weeks before a repeat ultrasound is done. In a viable pregnancy, the yolk sac and possibly the fetal pole will always become visible on a followup ultrasound. A gestational sac larger than 13 mm that contains no yolk sac means the pregnancy is not viable, so when the sac is larger than this and there is no yolk sac, the doctor can diagnose miscarriage and a miscarriage that consists of no yolk sac would fall in the category of blighted ovum.
I hope it helps. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Thank you for the info I go back this thursday for a follow up u/s hooefully that will give me some good news....
Symptoms won't tell if the pregnancy is viable, so what you feel doesn't actually mean/tell anything. For as long as the hCG hormone is in your body you're going to "feel" pregnant--even if the pregnancy is not viable. In terms of if it's too soon or not, it's very likely. At the stage you're in most women will see a sac and MAYBE a fetal pole if they're lucky. A fetal pole and/or heartbeat is usually not seen till 6-8 weeks of pregnancy.
It's too soon to see a baby this early in the pregnancy. An ultrasound at the 7-week point will give much more information. (7 weeks from the first day of your last period.)
