period lasting over a month (no pills)

I've been very confused lately. While finishing out my last month of school, I had had a period the whole time. It was light for about 3 weeks, and then the last week it was more like my normal period. I do not take any birth control, which I know can make periods longer. But after that last week I had about 3 days without a period, and then the light period came back again for about a week. Again, following that I had 4 days without a period and last night my period came out of nowhere. I don't understand why this is happening to me and it's making me very nervous.

If you have any idea what is going on with me, please help me out. Thanks!

Thanks for the responses!

At first I thought it was stress related during school, but even though it's over it's still going on so I don't understand...and I have randomly lost 7 pounds? Haha. I don't know if that means anything. But all my stressful situations ended roughly 2 weeks ago, with school and preparing for auditions.

I try to make the doctor a last resort..even though it's pretty important.

I had something similar when I was about 19. I bled heavily for about 12 days. I finally went to the dr after 10 days and was thinking I was hemorrhaging or something. He told me it was just extreme stress (which definitely shouldn't be ignored either). But after finding out that it wasn't serious, two days later it stopped.

You should probably be checked out by a dr any way. Hormones are weird things so they should make sure it isn't something more serious. But I bet it's like my situation was. School can be a very stressful thing! I'm sure I don't have to tell you that, though! Good luck! Hang in there!

Has anything changed in your life recently? Have you experienced any major stress, changed your diet, been ill or anything like that?
