Hi,
Oesophageal spasms are painful muscle contractions that affect your oesophagus. They are not particularly common in women over 35 years. Often symptoms that may suggest an oesophageal spasms can be due to other conditions such as gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or achalasia, a problem with the nervous system in which the muscles of the oesophagus and the lower oesophageal sphincter (LES) don't work properly. Anxiety or panic attacks can also cause similar symptoms. You should avoid very hot or very cold foods or other triggering factors. Consult a Doctor for an evaluation. Hope this helps.
The answer is based on information provided. Exact advice is not possible without a proper examination and investigations. You are requested to consult your Doctor. Take care and keep us posted.
Have you had your thyroid checked? When I had troubles with swallowing, they did an ultrasound on my thyroid and blood tests too. Found that my thyroid level was too low and put me in meds and it made it better.
On a less pleasant note, my friend had the same issue, had the same testing (she's 23) and found stage 4 thyroid cancer.
I suggest getting checked out soon. I never mess around with that stuff.
