pregnancy and getting induced?

Well my due date is Dec 7th..my doctor says that if I don't have the baby by monday dec 4th then he is going to induce me on tuesday..I guess its because the baby is measuring @ almost 42 weeks..my cervix is not dialated from the last time he checked, which was on mon.nov 27th. I am not wanting to get induced for the simple fact that I don't want to be in the Hospital for like two day trying to get induced if that makes sense?! He say that I will be givin cervidil to make me dialate then on Wed. morning start the rest. I was wondering if I could just wait and see if I go into labor on my own...cause once i do it will be a fast labor like with my first one.

thanks mer

Just wanted to wish you good luck!  Some women go fast in an induction.  I didn't, took me 2 days, but that was with a first baby.  As for hte size, don't worry too much, they may be off on the size too.  My sis was worried they predicted over 9 lbs. with her daughter and did a C-section around her due date, she was 7 lbs.  They predicted small baby for me and he was over 10 lbs.  Nobody is prefect.  Maybe you will go fast since your body has been through this, good luck and congrats!

My sis was induced last week and had her beautiful girl. She was a week past her due date, though. The pitocin was started at 10pm and the baby came out at 10am! Once she got that epidural she didn't feel anything. So according to HER, inductions aren't that bad. I wouldn't know, cuz I don't have kids. But that's her experience...good luck!

I agree with gonza its up to you, if u feel it may be too hard since they say ur measuring bigger then go ahead, but they always get the weight etc wrong. U have the right to wait for 2 weeks past the date, a friend of mine was book for inducing exactly 2 weeks after her date and she went into labour that day! Dont let them scaring u into u might need c section cos its what God wills, if ur happy with it when it comes to the time great if not tell them, its ur body! All the best for when the birth comes!

By the way maybe try doing alot of walking, I heard squats work, warm baths, ask ur babyfather for help! :-P That worked for me! I heard people try curry too! U never know s/he might make their way out before u even have to decide!

Hey.  My labor was induced both times.  The forst time I was dilated enough to get my epidural yet, but I also wouldn't let them give me anything else for pain either.  Nurse FINALLY asked why.  I fold her that someone had told me it would slow everything down and I wanted it over with as soon as possible.  She told me, " honey if it slows down we will just speed the IV drip up and give you more meds.  So if you want something for the pain, take it and don't worry about how fast it goes, we are controling that anyway."

So, that's what I did.  I took the meds and didn't worry about it and when it slowed down, she came back and turned my IV up to a higher dosage at  a faster rate.  I wouldn't worry about it.

I have heard raspberry tea works.

About the weight and size of baby.  They did an US to get approximate size 2 weeks before my EDD and they said he was 8 1/2 pounds.  He was 8 1/2 pounds 2 weeks later.

Personally I think that being induced before the due date (when there are no complications) should be left up to the woman.  If you are not comfortable with it then voice your opinion.  My water broke but I was still not dilating or effacing and nothing was happening so they gave me pitocin and I was in labor for over 18 hours (3 hours of hard labor).  Do what you feel is best.  Good luck and what a wonderful Christmas pressie.

I have been induced all three times.. All three labors were 5 hours or under once they started pitocin. My last one (in August), they broke my water and started pitocin at 7:00 am and he was born by 10:00 am.. That was awesome!

With my 2nd I went into labor on my own, my water broke and i was at the hospital within 2 hours, i was dialated to 5 cms. But apparently someone thought i wasnt in enough pain so they put me on pit. To this day i dont know why they done that. I think it was awfull. I hated it. I would have been fine on my own. But noooo... Had to have it. Anyway that was about 2:20pm and she was born at 8:20pm, and my first was a c-section. So it wasnt because id had a baby before that i went pretty quick. Anyway my point is I wanted a natural labor and I think i could have done it, without the pit, i think it makes it more painfull. So i ended up with a epi about 1/2 hour before i started pushing, lot of good that done me huh..Sorry to sound so negative about it. I think if your gonna get an epidural anyway, its no big deal. It just makes natural labor alot more painfull.

I was induced at 42 weeks, it was started at 4:30am and she was born at 4:18pm that day.  The worst thing about it was that because they have you on the induction meds they don't allow you the same freedom as natural birthers, you can't walk it off, or move around too much.  All I really wanted to do was be allowed to drag the IV thing up and down the hall to help my daughter come down, it's not that easy when your laying down.  They wouldn't let me because of the meds.  I was also warned that when my water broke and my own contractions started that it would be painful because I would be getting double contractions(ones caused by my own hormones to make it happen, and ones caused by the meds).  I wish you the best of luck and either way you go it's still childbirth, it's gonna hurt, but in the end your finished and you have a beautiful baby.  Talk to your doc about your options.

I was induced (started the Pitocin) at 8 in the morning, they broke my water at around 9:30 I started pushing aroung 7:30p and had my son by 8:18p. Induction wasn't that bad, especially with the epidural.
