question about mammograms

Hi.
I had my first mammogram in December, because I was experiencing breast pain in my left breast. I also had a ultrasound. Everything was ok, except I have dense breast tissue. I was wondering for those who also have this, how often should  I have a mammogram performed? Btw I'm 38..thank you.

Follow the doctor's advice.  That's the best bet.  They wouldn't allow you to do something that is dangerous (radiation wise) so don't worry about that.  But follow the guideline of how often to have mammos that your doctor sets forth for you.  good luck

Thank you so very much. So every year, or every couple? Or should I see what my doc says? Is having too many mammograms close bad for you? Radiation wise...

Hi and welcome.  The guideline is still annually after the age of 40.  They have tried to change the guideline to every 5 years but haven't yet.  I have dense breast tissue and am not recommended to go any more than other women.  I actually had a scare with a bi rad score of 5 for abnormalities found during a mammo (birad 6 is cancer).  I had a  biopsy and the area was removed and I STILL am recommended to go on the regular schedule of other women my age (after the first year in which I had mammos every six months).  So, no fear.  Dense tissue is common.  good luck
