I am a smoker. The only time i quite cold turkey I was pg. It didn't bother me at all. I never wanted a smoke. I was told about a movie that showed what happens to the baby when u smoke . It shows the baby convulsing (sp). Like it wants to take a breath, but can't. It's like your body shuts off to the baby so the nicotine won't hurt the baby. It freaked me out. I never wanted a cig. till after both my girls were born. THEN the cravings came back like I had never quit.

My friend stopped for a while. Once she hit the 72 hour mark she was better. If u can get to that point u will be ok. I took her blow pops, sunflower seeds, mint's, and lots of gum. it helped to keep her hands and mouth busy.

I know i need to stop, but I really enjoy them. I don't smoke in the house and I don't in the car (with the kids). People make me feel like I have the plague or something. To each their own. I guess.

I quit smoking last year. I didn't use patches or pills or anything like that. Gum, hard candy, and carrot sticks. I'm sure this isn't the way everybody can quit but it worked for me. All I can say is take it one day at a time. Make it a personal goal each day not to smoke. Don't think about long term (ONE DAY AT A TIME). If you slip, don't let it discourage you. Take a deep breath and wait 10 minutes when you start craving, this will give you time to talk yourself out of it. It is a good idea to avoid being around smokers for the first few weeks to avoid a slip, after that your not going to want to undo everything you've accomplished. Be strong, you can do it. Good Luck!!!!!!!!!

smoking sucks, and you know what is ever worse, quitting!!! it's sooooo hard! maybe you should try the nicotine patch, it is a lot better than the gum, as you get a constant supply of nicotine, for as long as you want, until you think you can go off the patch, and handle not smoking.
good luck!!

(spelled wrong! sorry) good luck and best wishes! =)

Nicotene, though extremely addictive, leaves your body fairly quickly. You should be over all withdrawl symptoms from 3-9 days at most. To help this precess along, drink alot, alot, and alot of water. This will help rid your body of those toxins that are so horrible!

After that, it is all about will power and change of lifestyle. It is really hard to stay quit because a. you know how enjoyable it is, b. you have to change your ways. Just remeber, you will miss it very much, but it won't miss you any and like the previous poster said, take it one day at a time. Soon you will despise the smell of them and you will be proud to be a non smoker.

I am a non smoker now for 3.5 years. I smoked for 10 years. Good luck to you!

You would be surprised how EASY it is to go cold turkey once you have decided to quit. Set a date, and stick to it. Taper your cigarette intake starting 2 weeks before your deadline.. going down by 2 a day, until you're smoking nothing. Your body will slowly adjust to the lesser quantities of nicotine and withdrawal will not be so bad.

GOOD LUCK - you've made a great decision!
