huh? did you say something?? cant hear ya all the way from MA!!
you all raised some good points that i didnt even think about (i guess my brain has been affected! LOL).
thanks for making me see what i couldnt hear!
We have loud....way loud music at our church. If hearing loss were to occur that easily, then I would be deaf. Also, consider all of the emergency workers who are exposed to those alarms on a daily basis. I think if hearing loss were to occur that easily, then all of our EMT's and firemen would be doing sign language on-the-job. I'm not saying that a small bit of damage wasn't done, but I don't think it's any worse than being at a concert when you were younger. It is normal to experience the sensation after....and a good thing that you don't hear ringing. Even if you went to the doc, and even if you had a loss, there isn't any way to regain it. The good thing for you is that hearing loss won't cause death, or body deformity, nor is it contagious...so this is a decent obsession for you!!! And, you'd have trouble doing a self-exam on your eardrums. Just remember, don't put anything into your ear canal....even for a test. And, if you read about a self-exam on the internet, don't do it. It's probably for a one-time test, not repeated use.
Hello???
Hello???
Can you hear me????
Oceans?????????????????
I used to be a punk rock queen. I used to judge how good a show was on how many days my ears rang after the show. Never could really tell though because I would see bands almost nightly. I started using earplugs about a year later. I think my last really loud show was when I was 27 and I'm 35 now. Hearing is perfect thank goodness. Everyone is different but I would guess that one time exposure would not hurt you. If you feel more comfortable getting your ears checked then do so. The ringing from that type of noise is pretty sucky. Amazing how age changes ones opinion of such things.
hey thanks girl...that would be great (post to your sis).
posters were right about DJ's and others who normally work in a very loud environment and still being ok.
typically... i do have sensitive ears. for ex: my daughter loves to play her musical instruments and i am sorry to say it drives me crazy...poor thing. i have to ask her to go do it in the other room. i get sooo over stimulized by sounds in general. whatta whimp! but seriously, that alarm was truely the loudest i have ever been exposed to. my ears are still sore on and off tonight. again, no ringing in them but feels like they are full of noise if that makes sense.
anyway, that would be terrific if you could pass this along to your sister who is an interpretor. i know tons of sign language so i guess if my hearing goes i have a back up.
I think you're okay with this one-time exposure, but if it would make you feel better, I'll copy and paste this to my sister. She is a hearing impaired interpretor, and knows a lot about the ears and hearing.
everybody's ears/body works different.. I have ear problems and I im only 25!.
THeres ppl out there that has to listen to the tv or the radio real loud because they cant hear it, and not even know.. but I would definatley get ur ears checked.. its better safe then sorry.
yea I think you should be okay!! I've been to many loud rock concerts and my hearing is excellent. There was one I went to once, and my ears rang so bad the next day that it made me super dizzy, I could barely even walk. now that is something to get worried about! I'm pretty sure you'll be fine, it is a very good sign you don't have any ringing today. And once in awhile isn't going to hurt anything, it's only if you were continuously exposed to this. for example, anyone who works in a nightclub is going to to damage their hearing. that is way more likely!!! there is a famous DJ who went deaf from over exposure.......and he actually went on to produce music by feeling the vibes with his feet!!
I would go to the doctors to get your ears check, yes it can cause damage:(
How long was the alarm on for?
Alot of loud noises are bad for the ear drums.. even if you listen to the radio real loud, or something.. please get checked:)
