help?very confused!!

i have a 28 to 33 day cycle i believe the last one started on aug31 then before that possibly aug 2nd or 3rd i check fertility calendars online  some say im fertile on 1 day some say from 1-7 days  my question is how long r u fertile once u ovulate..1day or more than 1 day? how long is ovulation? and is it safe to have unprotected sex 10 days before period is due like on 9/20-21? wouldnt the chances of being  be slim around this time if period is due on sept30?

Ovulation only lasts for 24 hrs but since sperm can survive up to 4/5 days your firtile period could be 5-7 days.  They say you ovulate 14 days BEFORE your next period. But since your cycle is not regular your best way to figure it out is to subtract 18 from your shortest cycle so 28-18 = 10 which means your ovulation window starts on the 10th day from your last period (start counting the first day as one), and subtract 11 from the longest 33-11 = 22 so to day 22.  most likely your ovulation occurs sometime between the 10th day of your period to the 22nd.  They say if your cycle is 28 days or short then you most likely ovulate in the early days of your ovulation period and towards the end if your monthly cycle is 30 days or over.  Hope this helps.
