What could happen to cause life altering results...?

1st time appt. to Opthamologist my eyes had reaction to some process of normal exam.  Immediate after effect extreme photophobia, pain, migraine...what could this be?   I sought emergency care after onset exteme discomfort. The 1st opthamologist stated I had iridis (sp?) dry eyes...he was uncertain as to what may have caused this.  He put me on Lotemax drops and allergan lubricating..next appt. set for 2 days.  At that time my condition was merely escalating not improving.  On the 2nd appt. he examined my eyes and stated possibly the previous dr. caused some kind of abrasion.  Pain and photophobia was in both eyes but extreme in my right eye which is dominant.  Three opthamologists later no one can resolve my extreme pain, photophobia, discomfort dry eye condition.  Also, it is very sensitive and painful to wear eye glasses I have been wearing for years.  This eye trauma has left me from double shift work schedule down to 2 days per week 4 hour shifts.
Can you offer any suggestions how to manage getting a diagnosis and treatment plan?

Post  eye exams are usually

1. allergy to eye drops. This is unusual and the problem would not last more than a couple of days.
2. Touching the eye with tissue while dabbing eye dry and scratching cornea. This is common. People often don't feel because the eye is numbed to check IOP
3. Pre existing cornea problems like dry eyes or corneal dystrophy like basement membrane disorder. Drying out from the numbing drops sets it off.

I would suggest seeing a cornea specialist Eye MD
