Watery discharge during period

The original discussion had been closed as of Nov. 7, 2009 so I titled mine the same.  ~  One person in the old posts  said they were told they had ovarian cysts that had burst, which is what all of the water is.  Makes sense because I am 40, and had been diagnosed with ovarian cysts at 20, had to go to the hospital I was in so much pain, but have never had trouble since - until yesterday.  Although at the time, my doctor did tell me I would have the cysts in cycles with my period, always.  I am in excellent health, have never had children, have regular clotting, bad cramps, but no constipation and have never experienced watery discharge until yesterday.  I am a distance runner, running 15 - 20 miles at a time and have NEVER had this problem until yesterday, while running a marathon!  I was not wearing a tampon, but supposed to start in a few days. Anyway, into my first mile I thought FOR SURE I had started - was glad I had black pants on.  It got worse and worse, the more I ran the more it flowed and down my legs.  I couldn't believe how heavy it was and thought if my shoes turn red I'll go to the emergency station.  It was VERY uncomfortable and I had a terrible time as a result of the distraction of my pants sticking to my legs, but I did finish the race - completely soaked.  Came home immediately and found that there was NO blood! It was all water!  There was absolutely no odor but my pants were soaked down to my shoes. I did start my period the next day and noticed I had been retaining an unusual amount of water.  Unusual because I do sweat a lot. ~  Since years ago I had been diagnosed with ovarian cysts, I am guessing that's what it was, that one burst. Believe me, it's much better than having to go to the hospital.  I'm amazed  in reading the replies to the previous Q & A that so many doctors don't know what the water is from. Thanks to all of the other responses, I think I've got it figured out but would be interested in hearing from anyone else.  Thanks.

I also have had this issue for months now, very heavy, clear, waterlike discharge. I have ovarian cysts as well and have come to the conclusion that's its the cyst fluid that is leaking. However, it happens to me at all diferent times during the month with no pattern. It comes in very heavy and soaks through my clothes and even through a tampon if I have one on. Very frustrating and unpredictable. I am not on birth control but was for many years.

I have the same.  I am almost 42 and 2 years ago I stared HRT because my ovaries were no longer producing estrogen regularly and ,y bones were weakening.  After I started the replacement I started having odorless clear discharge with my period and I thought at first that I had some barrier issue with my bladder/ uterus or that my tampon was wicking urine from the string, but no urine odor.  I have had ovarian cysts before as well, but no doc wants to hear about this strange thing!

Glad to hear others are experiencing this!

The annoying thing is that it makes my period last 7-10 days not 3-5 all the docs say it should be on the replacement I am on!  Ugh!  Sooo annoying!

I'm so relieved too to hear that others are suffering with this watery discharge thing. I have been getting so down about it and was thinking I was the only person suffering with it until I found this forum. Mine is not normally during the period but at the end from the 6th day until 10th/11th day. As I already suffer with heavy periods, ie a super plus is filled in less than an hr at the heaviest point, normally when you get to the 6th day you are quite pleased that it is all over for another month. But then you are greeted with a nice discharge for another 4/5 days. Lovely...not.. and you wonder what the hell is going on. No foul odour to report but it is like other people have said it is slightly yellow sometimes. Sometimes I get some blood too and then from day 11 onwards until day 28 I can be a normal human being again. Oh if only we knew what was going on. I am also worried as I am 32 and I have just just started trying for a baby,I know worrying does not help but it is just all very frustrating. So glad to have found this forum and all of you ladies going through the same problems...

I am so relieved to read all the posts about this very bazarre situation.  My son is 19 months old and only within the last 3-4 months have I started to see this watery discharge.  It's almost like when you are pregnant and your water breaks.  Mine broke at home when I was pregnant so I remember very clearly.  LOL.  It isn't a lot of fluid but enough to peak my curiosity.  I just had my annual exam done back in September and everything came out fine.  I discovered that I was suffering from PPD and so in Sept. I started to take Celexa and wondered if that had something to do with the discharge.  I am going to go for a follow up visit with my GYN on Monday and will mention it to her and see what her response is.  The Ovarian cysts  possibility make me a bit nervous but if that is what it is and they are just bursting, then I will agree, It's better that they burst than to have to visit ER.

I have the same issue. In talking to my dr you would think I was the only one.  I have tried medicines just incase it was an infection (metronidazole baginal 0.75% PRA) and another one (can't remember the name).  It started about 8 months ago now. I have norma periods no issue there. I am not on birth control pills, but was about 3yrs ago. I am not on any medications. I go to the gym regularly.  I do not experience any cramping during my periods.  It happens all days when i do not have my period.  I see the most discharge in the morning as soon as I get up from the bed. It will happen randomly.  It is watery with a slightly thicker consistency. There is no odor and it ranges from clear to a light yellow.  I am really lost as to what is going on.  I do not have any cysts, STD's and am still a virgin.  I have given up to just wearing liners until my body decides it wants to stop this.  Unless someone else can figure something else out.
