Keri, Ruptured Cyst

I have posted a reply for ruptured cyst symptoms under my post of how do you rupture a cyst.  But here it is for anyone else worried about Ovarian Cancer who has not yet been diagnosed.  It was thought I may have OC, and I am not totally in the clear yet, but 90% of the way there.

Sorry it's taken me a few days to reply.  Yes, I had bright red bleeding.  Actually, here's a list of the symptoms as they happened - bear in mind that for 4 weeks the doctors were saying it was muscoskeletal and abdominal strain, which it wasn't:-

Stitch in right side

Pain through right of abdomen, feeling sick

Pain intensifying and spreading to lower abdomen, but also pain continuing in upper, right abdomen, right of belly button and 1 inch in from my upper part of hip bone

Pain when urinating right side - severe cramping to the point of having to either stop when trying to stand from sitting or after going to toilet.  Felt like UTI - blood in urine.

Constipation, Unable to breathe fully, yawn, sneeze.  Could not lie on right side or left side as transabdominal pain.  Pain throughout the abdomen sharp and intense.  Later put down to serous fluid leaked from cyst(?) into abdomen?

Complete immobilization because of spasmodic pain through whole of abdomen, then spreading to left side of neck and eventually left breast and arm.

Digestive discomfort - abdominal swelling - got round this being really intense with a diet of porridge at breakfast, soup and bread at lunch and nothing at dinner.

The worst night sweat of my life

12 days of bleeding including intermittent day

Earlier I had to go to ER because of severe abdomen pain. Tests showed nothing. My family docotor suggested tests for cyst and they found 1.5 cm cyst. So every three months I go for checkups to monitor them.

Last week suddenly I had pain which is unbearable. Starts from abdomen and goes all the way right side back. Again went to ER and blood/urine/pelvic tests showed nothing. Next day family doctor after consulting with gynacaelgist suggested ruptured cyst. They gave Hydrocodone pain killers. He said the pain should go away in 48 hrs.

Its been 4 days and I still get the pain and pain killers r causing me more issues. Is it normal to have milder episodes of pain after a severe pain? How many days will this last? How can I confirm that the pain is because of ruptured cyst? What teste should I ask doctor to do?

Thanks!

I'm 18 and I have had two cysts this month. Both of them ruptured and I have been sick for 3 days now waiting for the pain to go away from the last one. I went to the hospital for the first one after having pain for 2 days.  Your post has been useful to me. Thank you. If you have any ideas on how to get the pain to go away(pain killers don't work very well) please let me know. It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Sherry,

Thanks, that has helped me.  But by what I have read, and I am aware of for myself, is that cysts, although maybe not cancerous on first inspection, and may appear benign on US or MRI, can be or become malignant if left. With the problems that you have had, I am surprised they have not removed your ovaries.  I am preparing myself for a hysterectomy, or ovaries to be removed.  It may be just as simple as removing the two remaining cysts (if they don't twist or rupture in the meantime, which I suspect one might).  Have they suggested what they may do?

This past September, I began to experience the same feelings of a ruptured cyst as described in my previous post.  I went to the er and had an ultrasound done.  They found a 9cm cyst on my left ovary and a 8cm cyst on my right ovary.  The er doctor sent me home with instructions to contact my obgyn immediately upon leaving the hospital to schedule surgery.  My doctor read the results from the ultrasound and decided to have me wait one cycle to see if the cysts would disolve on their own with a follow up ultrasound in 30 days.  I was sent back to work, only this time, I developed pain in the left side and a limp everytime I tried to resume normal activity.  My doctor put me on short term disabilty to wait out the cycle.  After 30 days, I had the ultrasound done and the technician couldn't get a good reading.  After 3 attempts, over the stomach, she gave up, especially after I told her I was going to pass out if she ran the wand over my stomach one more time.  She tried doing a vaginal ultrasound twice, again, this didn't give her a good reading.  When I left the lab, I was in such pain, by Tuesday, the pain had increased so much so that pain killers were ineffective.  I stuck it out until Thursday and called my doctor to advise that I was heading to the er.  In the er, they again did a ultrasound.  This time, a technician with over 10 years experience.  I had no pain during the proceedure.  Lesson learned, if the technician is causing you pain.  Stop and ask for someone else.  They discovered I had multiple cysts on the right ovary, but the 9cm and 8cm cyst had ruptured.  I had fluid in my abdomin.  They scheduled me for surgery the next day.  Upon going inside, my doctor discovered that my left ovary had adhered to my bowel and my right ovary had adhered to my bladder causing problems voiding.  In addition, I had a series of grape like cluster cysts starting at one fallopian tube all the way across to the other, fusing all my organs together.  My doctor said there were so many cysts that he had to stop counting.  I go back in two weeks for the biopsy results and treatment recommendations.  I hope these posts help others.

I had a grapefruit size cyst rupture 2 years ago that had grown in the cavity where my uterus used to be located.  I felt like I was getting a severe yeast infection and uti all in one.  I had a burning sensation in my stomach, like ulcers.  Both ovaries hurt with pain starting in my kidneys and radiating downward to both ovaries and then down to just above my pubic bone.  I work in a 17 floor building and my habit was to walk down from the 17th floor to the parking garage to my car on the 5th floor.  By the time I arrived home, with a 30 minute drive, I was unable to walk upright.  My stepdaughter is a nurse and she convinced me to go to the er.  Upon examination in the er, they found this huge fluid filled cysts the size of a grapefruit.  The cyst had a tear in it and was slowly leaking poison into my bowel area.  I had trouble going to the bathroom and a general feeling of something not being right inside.  I thought I had a stomach virus.  Needless to say, I was scheduled immedately for surgery.

I've had several cysts rupture.  The first time being when I was in my early 20's.  I was walking from the bathroom to my bedroom to get ready for work when I felt a searing pain on my side.  I dropped to my knees and was unable to walk, paralized from the waist down.  I could only stay in a fetal position.  My husband took me to the dr who told me that I had ruptured a cyst based on the fluid in my abdomin.  It took several days to recover with extreme tenderness in the area almost two weeks later.  It was sudden and without any warning sign.
