I need some advice

I have already had one about 7 years ago. I was so scared that I had them put me to sleep at the last minute.  Now the doctor insists that I stay awake for this one.  He says that it is better for me and the baby.  That may be true, but I don't want to be awake for it.  I have such a fear of it.  I broke down in the office today whe we talked about it.  Can he make me stay awake?  I don't know what I going to do.  I am so upset over this.

I go back to the doctor on Wednesday.  I am going to ask him more about how things will go then.  I was going to stay awake with my son.  I was doing OK until the very last minute.  The docotr came in amd asked me if I was ready and that is when I told him that I had changed my mind and wanted to be asleep.  I don't remember getting any meds before that point though.  I did not even have a spinal in at that time.  I am really thinking about changing my mind to stay awake the more I talk to people about it.  This is just my last time to experience this and want it to be a hapy memory not something that is happy but clouded with the fear and stress of it all.

I have had 2 c-sections and another here in May,all awake. The first time i was so scared and it was hell mostly becuase i hadent sleeped for 24 hours that i was in labor before hand. The second time i made sure i got sleep and it went fine, i joked around with the doctors the whole time, just make sure you have someone in the room with you that is comforting. The first time i had my husband in the room and he looked at me like i was about to die wich made me freak out even more.So the 2nd one i had my mom who calms me and it went great.Make sure you get some sleep. Also some doctors will give you safe meds to help calm you before surgery a month in advance if you need it (Visteril)<<something like that ,I am takeing it.

No, but my doctor did ask during the last c-section if I wanted it done since everything was available then anyway. I won't have it done this time either because we're planning on my hubby going in when we are sure we are done having children.

thanks for the advice everyone.  Sorry i am just getting back to all of you.  I have been away for a week.  Anyway, I was going to stay awake the first time around and chickened out at the last moment (when the doctor came in the operating room).  I wish that I could just have a vbac.  The doctor told me on my first visit that this wasn't an option for me.  I plan on having my tubes tied while I am in there for the c section.  has anyone ever had that done too?

I had one 6 years ago and really they give you a lot of drugs so you are basically out of it... really for a while I thought I was having twins during my delivery...  they can also give you something for anxiety... and I didn´t see anything... not one needle or anything... you will be fine... sorry you are so worried... anyway you could have a vbac?

i agree with tahariel 100%.

also i would like to add that its really a privialge to be awake for a csec and something you may regret in the future. i personally dont look forawrd to labor again myself and the contractions and pushing....when we see our little ones its all worth it!!! =) we tend to "forget" the rest. My friend had to have an emergency csection and was put out...not gunna get into alot of details but she had to make some decisions right when she woke up and her mind wasnt so clear.
The after affect will be there reguardless the pain and discomfort while healing. Take advantage of the fact you have the option to be awake.

Planned, non-emergency c-sections tend to go very well. I've had 2 and will be having another this time around too. Are there specific parts of the c-section that cause your fear? There is a screen up so you would not be able to see anything, and with the epidural or spinal, you don't feel much either, just a little pressure in your abdomen when they bring baby out. The doctor and nurses talk to you the entire time. And your significant other or birthing helper sits right next to you too. It is normal to be nervous but when you have trust in your doctor, everything should go fine.

I can say it is the best moment when the doctor announces the baby's gender and you hear your baby's first cry. They bring baby around to see you right away too. You may want to discuss your fears with a counselor or therapist and see if you can put them to rest. Or perhaps your doctor can give you a safe anti-anxiety medication? Best wishes.

ooh ok.  I just saw it in the other forum.
I'm really scared of needles and IVs and stuff too.  I cry when i get my blood drawn so I know how it is.  If the C section has to be done for your safety and/or the baby's safety maybe there is a medical reason that you need to be awake this time?  if you are too emotional about the subject why don't you have your partner talk to the doctor to get additional information about it.  knowing as much as you can before you get there could help with some of the stress.
