cyst

I have a so called "cyst" in my right breast.  I called my doctor for the results and the nurse said he wants to see me to get a biopsy done.  I am worried.  Cyst's run in my family but why does a biopsy have to be done and not just a removal?

This discussion is related to cyst biopsy.

Hi,

What is your age? What symptoms are you having?

You could talk to your breast specialist about the further management plan and the reason for suggesting a biopsy.

Removal of fluid is the usual management in case of a cyst in the breast. Cysts can come back in about 30% of cases.

Having a cyst does not increase your chances of breast cancer and a breast cyst is itself a benign lesion.

But if it recurs again then you can discuss the option of a surgical excision biopsy with your surgeon.

Let us know how you are doing and if you have any other doubts.

Regards.

I am 32 years old.  I have no symptoms.  The doctor felt a cyst in my breast and I had an ultrasound done.  I just wonder why they have to do a biopsy.  I guess I would just rather hear them say they have to remove because it's in the way.
