epididymus ??

Hi. I am a 39 year old male in excellent shape. A couple months ago I experienced swelling and dull pain in my right testicle. I did have some unprotected sex with someone I know but never do. anyway, I went to the doctor and they gave me one dose of antibiotics and tested me for chylmidia. Tests came back negative and i went back. Then as the treament didnt work they gave me a 3 day does of 500mg  azithromycin 1a (I think it is time released). It seemed to get better and then they tested me (urine) for any bacterial infection .. Negative.. It came back again a week later.. The doctor said the tests were negative and to just rest.. I did not have fever, or any other symptoms ?

Is this normal? what is the typical recovery time for epididymus ? Can I have sex? Should I get blood test? or ultrasound?

I have no fever and a little swelling which tends to go up & down with slight tightness?

Yes, if you haven't had one, you should.

Maybe a blood test to see the white blood cell count?

I don't know what treatment, because you don't know what's wrong.  I would follow whatever your doc has said, and if it doesn't improve, see a urologist.

Thanks so much

Urine Test results have all come back negative including chylamydia . I have had three different urine tests spread out over 2 months or so .. Swelling seems to be minor and has gone down. The pain was intially a bit painful but has since been more annoying. The sweeling seems to go down and then back up .. Quite odd as I have never had anything like this i my life?? I am very active but I doubt it's muscular.. I have just started the no caffine, no alchohol thing and elevating the scrotum at night ( no sex too).. Swelling went down & seems to be working as it has only been one day..

Just want to know what proper treatment to administer to get better

Thanks

I strongly doubt you had epididymitis.  That is a very painful condition.

When you had your second tests, was it longer than a week since you had taken the antibiotic?  If it wasn't, and two weeks is actually better, then you might have a false negative.

This doesn't sound std to me, though.  Maybe its anxiety, or you pulled a muscle.
