I agree with momagain59--I would definitely have him re-evaluated.
He sounds like a good kid and you obviously love him very much. I'm glad you have him now and I hope it stays that way.
All the best to you and your family.
Anxiety can mimic ADHD. If he is now in your custody, you can always have him re-evaluated. I am glad he is out of that abusive situation.
My son has also been in an abusive situation with his mothers husband and now i have him with me. So i also think this was also part of his behaviours with his mother.
My son is ten yrs. old. He's struggling in school due to not enough help with his work, but he is an incredible athlete knows plays and focuses on the field and court. My point of it being selective.
I don't have any first-hand experience with an ADD or ADHD diagnosis, or the medications commonly prescribed, but I have read some about it and the sources I read state that the symptoms/behaviors are present across the board, not just in specific places with specific people.
How old is your son? Is he struggling in school? What about other places (scouts, sports practices, Sunday School, music lessons, etc.)?
Who diagnosed your son? His pediatrician or a psychologist specializing in ADD and ADHD?
