Misdiagnosis of Genital Herpes

Dear Drs Hook and Handsfield,

I read another post with this title and you recommended to be absolutely sure of the diagnosis of Herpes one should have the blood test.  I live in the UK and I would really like to know how I can ask my doctor for this, what is it specifically that I should be asking for?

With Kind regards Smileyriley81

In the UK you want to go to a private doctor. It's my understanding that the GUM clinics don't offer the type specific herpes igg blood testing. Most clinics that do offer blood testing for herpes seem to be offering the herpeselect though which is good!

Hi  - this isn't the doctor's forum.  Do ask them, you need to post in the experts forum.

You can ask your doctor for a type specific IgG blood test.  From what I understand about the UK, its not widely used, but I do know people that have gotten it done there.  You just might have to be persistent.
