My wife is 53 years old and has suffered for ten years. She has had numerous procedures, all unsuccessful, but I don't want to scare you off. Your case is undoubtedly different. I have been to (2) Trigeminal Neuralgia national conferences, and many local meetings in the Detroit area. If you need somone to talk to I understand your frustation, and would be happy to talk about the many options you have. I'm just a husband who has been dealing with my wife's pain forever, and has learned alot.
Here's me email address.

MVD is the only known treatment which has good success rate that is the pain goes away or felt mildly it may not return at all, have u got your self checked for MS, because since u say that you have pain on both side of face which means u have bi-laterial tn, which is rare, so get urself tested for MS.
I m suffering from bi lateral tn but in my case i have got one side operated upon and have lost 2nd and 3rd div of trigeminal nerver which is resulted pernamnent relief from pain but also lasting numbness followed on one side of face.
the other side face is contrtolled by medicine like tegretol and nurontin.
good luck to u. do let me know how the MVD has gone, which i believe u must have got it done by now.

hi i was first thought to have tn in july of last year but the doctors treated it as a sinus infection, i went for surgery on my nose, and took lots of medication, finally in december of last year they knew it had to be tn. so in total 7 months i have had tn before the surgeon decide to do mvd. i hear i am very lucky that people normally have to try other methods first and see if they qualify, but for i have tn on both sides of my face and i have about 6 or 7 attacks a day they have decide to do mvd right away. i saw my surgeon last week and i go for surgery in july , i pretty scared. i live in canada i dont know if that makes things diffrent or not, you would like to think medical doctors would be similar in the u.s and canada.
I am just wondering how long you have suffered from Trigeminal Neuralgia before the MVD Operation became an option. Thank You.
Hi Michael, thank you for your response, i have about 6 or 7 attacks daily and am using methadone and hydromorphine for pain, and it doesnt really work is there any other pain meds you know of that work in helping with tn?
In general, mvd's are a good option for young patients. The outcomes are reported to be as high as 90% in terms of efficacy and is considered one of the most durable treatments. Patients also report an improvement in their quality of life.
