Hey,
Today my wife received test results saying she has ureaplasma urealyticum and the doctor has said she needs to have an injection every day for 7 days to cure this problem (they didn't confirm what the injection was of). We live in a developing country and are a little sceptical about the advice we are being given as it is not in-line with much of the information we have found on the internet. Can you please help us clarify a few questions
1) Does the recommended treatment seem correct? What do you think it could be (an anti-biotic?). We read that this problem usually requires 2 weeks or more of constant anti-biotic treatment to cure and both man and woman need to receive this as they can both carry the bacteria - is this correct?
2) We also read that this can be easily mis-diagnosed from other conditions, given the relatively low level of health care here would you suggest getting a second opinion or is this something that is so obvious to diagnose that its more then certain to be ureaplasma urealyticum.
Not sure if you need to know but symptoms so far for my wife have included white discharge, ichyness and general tenderness in the vagina. I have had no symptoms of anything wrong.
Thank you very much for your help in advance!
