Hi,
Small pineal cysts are common and can be found incidentally on routine neurological exams. They are usually asymptomatic.Large cysts can compress adjacent structures result in symptoms.
Depending upon the size and the compression the symptoms can range from headaches, increased pressure on the brain, vision abnormalities, seizures and other serious complications.
A complete workup including a MRI scan and tests for endocrine abnormalities are done to ascertain the extent of the tumors. Intervention (medical or surgical) is dependent upon the type of the tumors (cysts), severity and duration of the signs and symptoms.
A prompt neurosurgical consultation is necessary for you for complete evaluation and treatment.
Take care,
Regards
I couldn't have put it better myself. My left eyelid twitches, too, and it IS really annoying!!!! It doesn't happen all the time, but it happens enough for me to add that to the list of "symptoms".
And they seem to love prescribing medication to me, too. To me, it feels like putting a band-aid on a bullet wound. They should at least admit that pineal cysts can cause problems and it's a possibility, but that due to the dangerous nature of the surgery that would be required to remove it, they want to exhaust other options, first. They don't, though, instead choosing to pretend that pineal cysts never cause any issues. It's driving me crazy, really.
