Chances of Benign Cyst or Cancer?

Freinds,

My wife was diagnosed with a complex ovarian cyst about 15 cm in size.  She is 58 and is a 10 year survivor of breast cancer.  Her family has no history of ovarian cancer.  Is there hope that her cyst is benign?  We get the C-125 results on Monday.

I hope someone out there can give be some hopeful news.  I am pretty much at my wit's end with worry.

I would take her to be seen by a GYN/Oncologist...and no, I do not think that she has cancer, no one knows until they do a biopsy, these doctors are experts with 3 years additional training over OB/Gyns and treat many benign conditions.  And as Laney explained, most Ovarian Cysts are benign....but, with a history of breast cancer it is important that she be seen by the right doctors.  Unfortunately, us OvCa survivors have a higher risk of developing Breast cancer and visa versa.  Remember, OvCa is a relatively rare disease, and even an increased risk, is still a low risk.
Good luck and let us know what happens.

Hi there,
First off take a deep breath and know that most cysts even the complex ones are benign 95% of the time. Do you know if she is post menopausal? The Ca125 results are very unpredictable in pre menopausal women. Many things affect the result. Inflammation, viruses/colds all can through the results off. Do you know if she had a transvaginal ultrasound? That is the best test to keep an eye on things.
Also, there are many post menopausal women here on this forum who had large cysts removed, and the pathology turned out to be benign.
My suggestion to you would be for her to get an opinion from a gyn/oncologist. NOT that I think she has ovarian cancer, but because they are absolutley the best at diagnosing these types of things. They have much more training than a regular gyn or an ob/gyn.
please keep us posted and Im sure you will get some great info on here.
Take Care and God bless you both
