For those new to Teia's story and why this is HUGE.
She turned 17 in December and is a former feral. She was rescued from the street at age 6 months from a nasty kid who had caught her and popped both of her shoulders. The folks that rescued her got her fully vetted and gave her a spare room in their house. They took good care of her physical needs, but never made much, if any, attempt to socialize her. Teia did not much care for people and hated other cats.
We took her in at age 10 1/2 and decided we were going to try and socialize her with patitne, persistent kindness. We think that worked. She's asleep next to me on the couch as I type.
I am doing better than one might expect for the pancreatic cancer diagnosis. We are cautiously optimistic that I am in remission. Will not get the official say so until I hit 5 years clear.
From what the new vet and her colleague have told us, Miss Teia was likely 12 years old (2 years at rescue) when we adopted her in June 2009. She will be, in the revised estimate, 21 years old on 21 June 2018.
