I love this tradition too. My grandmother knitted my sister and I's Christmas stockings. They are very unique complete with our names stitched quite large across the top. It's only been the last few yrs, my mom stopped putting them up and passed them along to us.
You should put a picture of them up. It's funny, I've had these same stockings since the kids were real little and a lot of the ornaments I still use are those knitted little animals that the kids always loved, and I loved because they were soft and unbreakable....just perfect for little hands.
