This is the photo of my tongue during a normal day (afternoon). Notice the white layer that covers all the tongue except the tip. The white layer can hardly scraped off.
Sexual exposure (received unprotected oral sex from a girl of unknown status in Feb 2012). My tongue has been like this from June 2012 to this day (about one year now). Diagnosed with "Candida Albacins Complex" in June 2012 (oral swab), but tested negative for yeast later (two tests, oral swab as well). Several HIV tests (negative) up to 9 months post exposure.
My tongue is:
- All white except the tip
- With excessive saliva
- Swollen tastebuds in the border
- Overal swollen tongue with teeth marks in the border.
If anyone had a similar story/symptoms please get back to me.
I have gone thru a similar ordeal over the last 10 months. I am a 29 year old male. I performed oral on a woman of unknown status October 2012. Four days later I had really bad UTI symptoms followed by: severe night sweats, loss of appetitte, tingling limbs, random pin prick blood spots on arms/hands/feet, skin that indents very easily, and lastly a white tongue that won't disappear.
The tongue issue looks very similar to yours. The one good thing is that it has gotten a little better. In the beginning it was persistent all day and couldnt be brushed away. Now, it's present when i wake up, I brush it off, and it doesnt return til late afternoon. Hopefully it continues to get better, but it has been lingering for almost 10 months so who knows.
I've been tested for nearly everything under the sun and all results have come back normal. I saw my regular doc and 2 infectious disease specialists. I'm sure it wont surprise you that i was most worried about HIV. I was 100% sure i had it despite the long odds of my risk. I had negative HIV antibody tests at 6 weeks, 3 months, and 7 months. I had a negative RNA test at 6 weeks. I also convinced the doc to check my CD4 count at 3months which was totally normal at 1042.
Long story short, I have no idea what this this is. I feel totally normal now, accept for the white tongue issue and the easily indenting skin. 6 months ago i was terrified that i was dying. Now, my life is close to being back to normal, but i still have that little bit of nervous uncertainty lingering.
Do you have any answers? What have doctors told you? To sum it up, here's what the infectious disease doctor told me: "Here's how i look at your case. You are 100% healthy. I'd let you marry my daughter and have kids".
Hope this finds you in good health. Please post an update.
The coated tongue won't go away. I tested recently for bacteria/yeast (oral swab) and yeast is negative and bacteria is normal. But unlike you, my situation is getting worst. The soreness in the swollen tastebuds is more frequent than before, and the whiteness of the tongue is absolutely not normal.
Next Monday I have an appointment with an infectologist, and I have also scheduled an appointment to do an endoscopy in September.
I didn't take an HIV PCR RNA test yet, but that's the next thing to do if symptoms persist. Didn't do a CD4/CD8 count neither. My WBC is normal, but in the low side of the scale (around 4500 to 5500).
Any update, Ashler? Have you found out anything else? I have been having a burning sensation on my tongue, along with enlarged papillae all around the edge of my tongue for about a month now. I've been to my GP and was referred to an ENT who told me I have geographic tongue. I don't think that is causing this. I asked if he was sure my symptoms were not caused by HPV and he said yes. But he didn't do a culture. :( I'm going back in 10 days for that because I need to know! I'm terrified especially now because we just saw that my baby has a red patch on his tongue with one little bump on it. I'm terrified it's HPV and that I somehow gave it to him??? The anxiety is really getting to me!
