Your healthy habit: Compulsively re-washing produce
How it can backfire: When it comes to pre-washed bagged veggies, many experts agree that re-washing it in your sink actually introduces more risk of contamination. After all, the factory that bagged your greens faces regular inspections — are you sure your kitchen would pass the test?
Instead: Skip the second rinse unless your sink and strainer are meticulously clean. However, for fresh produce or packaged produce that has not been pre-washed, by all means, wash and rinse thoroughly!
