But you can't take painkillers for more than 10 days at a time without getting an overuse headache. What else can you do if the familiar painkillers don't work?
Triptans treat severe migraines and some of the symptoms of prodrome, aura and postdrome. Unfortunately, triptans can lead to drowsiness, dizziness and nausea; symptoms you're already trying to ditch. Though the side effects are rare, triptans have led to heart attacks, so if you have a history of heart disease, high blood pressure or are at risk for stroke, you shouldn't take them.
